Making fun of Larry the Cable Guy is like punching out an eight year old. Meaning, it's fun and very easy. I know that technically there are no rules in comedy but I can still hate something in it. I couldn't figure out what made me so mad about "Dice" or Larry for a long time. Sure, they had shitty jokes but so do hundreds of comedians. I finally understood what it was when I thought about what I like about comedy. In comedy my favorites are people who are really showing their real selves and you believe every word they say is something they would say offstage. Bill Hicks expressed everything he believed in. Richard Pryor made his life his set. The whole thing Larry and with "Dice" is they only project fake personas. Larry is a 100 percent fake and that bugs me more than anything. People buy into it and think "Boy, isn't he cool. He's a straight talkin' salt a the earth fella like myself" when in fact it's the very opposite. Sure I'll concede Andrew "Dice" Clay has made me laugh before but it's his job to write jokes so that shouldn't be a big surprise. I'll laugh, but will I respect him as long as he does that persona? Nope. What is funny is how it's almost like history has repeated itself. When  "Dice" came out he blew up and he had catch phrases and everything. Pretty soon he was selling out concerts and people ate it up. He also came out with a movie called "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" which was a movie adaptation of his stage persona. It did very poorly and he was soon a cultural afterthought. I hope and pray the Larry the Cable Guy follows in the same fashion. I will give "Dice" this, he almost learned the errors of his ways. He dropped the persona for one special, it sucked but he tried. I do have to question his motives because he did this after people grew tired of the "Dice man". Maybe he was only trying to make money and keep in the public eye or maybe he truly wanted to change at that time. Anyway, I have talked way too long about this. Please Ron White, continue to be the shining black light of hope in the Blue Collar world.
