The "Bryce Shaver Band" Stuns Nashville!
2008 Jam-A-Que Tribute to George McCorkle
I know you've all heard of "That little ol band from Texas" ZZ Top.
Well there's another even littler band from Texas called the "Bryce Shaver Band". And May the 16th and 17th this band of young prodigies invaded the fourth annual jam-a-que at the home of "Mister Southern Rock" Himself, Bruce Wall in Beautiful Pleasant Shade Tennessee just east of Nashville. The trio of young musicians along with their music instructor Kenny Sanders shocked the large crowd and the viewer's world wide on the www.downsouthjukin.com web cam. With their incredible eleven song set that included four original tunes. Why were the people at this great event shocked? Well… Bryce Shaver from Lumberton TX on vocals and lead guitar is TEN years old! Gage Hernandez on Bass guitar and also from Lumberton is TEN years old! Alex White on Drums from Orange, Texas is FOURTEEN years old! And I saw with my own eyes these three young men stand toe to toe and hold their own along side of some legends of southern Rock. Like Harley "Coconut" harmonica legend from the Charlie Daniels Band. Jo Jo Billingsley of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame, The Terry Eckerd Band, Nashville Recording artist Candy Coburn, Monica Perry, Southern Rock Society, A great young southern rock band called "The State Line Mob", among others including "The Southern Boys Band" featuring Justin McCorkle son of legendary rhythm guitarist and founding member of the Marshall Tucker band George McCorkle, who this year's event was dedicated to. We lost George last June after a brief struggle with cancer. George would have been proud to witness the rise of this young southern rock band from southeast Texas. The chills received by all present in Mr. Wall's living room when Bryce and Gage played an acoustic version of the Marshall Tucker anthem "Can't you see" will never be forgotten by this writer. You'll have to take my word for it that seeing this band play is something every one of all ages deserves to see in person! Be prepared to rock out and have a great time. These kids are serious about their music and you can here it in the performance. It's like Candy Coburn said to me after the show "The drummer was dead on" "The bass player was more in the pocket than 90% of the bass players on tour" "And that kid on lead guitar, WOW! I'm afraid to take the stage after that performance". She just bowed her head and walked off when I told her Bryce also plays Mandolin, Bass, Keyboards, Piano and Drums. Gage has only been playing Bass for FOUR months! Alex is also a phenomenal guitarist as well as an awesome Drummer! I'd have to say their "Teacher" Kenny Sanders from Beaumont is an amazing instructor!! Kenny is currently teaching several accomplished musicians in the area. I thank the almighty for lining up the stars in such a way as to have me receive the honor of knowing them all.
