I just saw a news item talking about the latest accessory for the student, backpacks containing a bulletproof shield. Has pathetic is that.
I'll concede that with the rash of shootings in schools [from kindergarten to colleges] that equipping yourself or your child with a $175 to $250 backpack that contains a shield against bullets can give one some peace of mind, but I remember school being the one place where students were safe.
It's just a sad day in 2007 to see ballistic backpacks being marketed for students and that in these times the idea of buying such is not at all ridiculous.
Even more sad is picturing a concerned parent giving little Jimmy instruction on how to effectively use his new "bulletproof" backpack.
This is what we have degraded to.
