We have decided to call it a day.

The main reason for this is that I suffered from a stroke in June and unfortunately I do not know when / if I will be well enough to play guitar again.

On behalf of the band I'd like to say a big thank you to anyone who ever came to one of our shows, bought one of our records or danced to one of our songs in a club. Thank you, if it wasn't for you the whole thing would have been pointless.

Finally on a personal note, thanks for all your well wishing messages.

You've make a wonderful impact in my life, and I'm sure many, many others. We'll always have those records, if not the band to watch.

Best wishes to you all for the future.

Noooooooo! :'( I don't like mondays, it's even worse when I heard such news. I've seen you some times ago at the Trabendo in Paris, and it had been a terriffic gig experience.

Dorian: get well!

The others: I'm already hooked to the Millipedes, but what other projects will you be in (or already are)? Don't let all that awesomeness you can do disappear.

Hate to read this, but ultimately your health is the most important thing.

Hopefully you'll be able to make a comeback years down the road. But if not, you can still point to 2 great albums. Most bands never get 1.

NO! NOOOOOOO!!! You will forever remain one of the very funnest bands of this decade.

I'm gonna go drink way too much gin in your memory.

I am at the very least glad that I was able to see you play live (Although I'm now even MORE sad I didn't get to hang out afterward and get you to sign my vinyl StDYH).
Best wishes to you all!
And Kate, I still have a mad crush on you.

Such a sad day...

Your songs have been the soundtrack to our dressing up, going out, drinking, dancing.

Your lyrics have been like our early-twentysomething diary entries.

You've been such a cherished band - this is sad news, but I'm sure you'll all go on to do fabulous things.

I'm sorry to hear the sad news.

The Long Blondes will always remain one of my favourite all time bands - I loved collecting all the stuff you did pre-Rough Trade and I think the complilation of the stuff from the perfect way to sign off.

I was so hyped about your early stuff that I travelled from Glasgow down to see you play at Escobar in Wakefield in early 2006.

I hope your health improves and you get back to making music again.

With much love,

Paul.

So sad to hear this news - had such a blast following you guys! In my humble opinion, you were the best new band to come out of the UK in the last five years - irresistible melodies, intelligent lyrics, fantastic live performers, and just really good fun!

But your health has to come first. I hope everything works out for you guys, especially you Dorian. Keep us updated on your progress.

All the best,
Adam

reading this message hit me so hard in the chest I almost cried.. everything in it has come as such a huge shock. as such, i can't not say anything... the long blondes have been one of the most important bands in my life since seeing Appropriation aired late night on MTV2 sometime 2005.. I'm used to the bands I adore the most and those that have made the most impact splitting up (you pointed out my Suede t-shirt at a gig once!), but lb's have felt like such an integral part of the past few years, from a personal level to the inimitable, unforgettable Manchester gigs to great memories like watching you guys DJ in Topman and requesting Menswe@r - to hear you lot are no more leaves quite an empty feeling.. knowing the reason and it coming as such a shock only upsets further :(

i was always struck and inspired by the uniqueness and pure amazingness of lb's sound, style and pretty much everything... lyrics that were achingly poignant, witty and that I could never dream of being able to write and riffs that made me want to pick up a guitar and start and a band and do what you lot did brilliantly (even if i could only manage playing along to You Could Have Both).

two outstanding albums, so many great singles and b-sides, that something you can't quite put your finger on that makes a band incredibly special - i will forever love the lb's, bands like this do not come along very often and i can only say i am so grateful that I got to witness it first-hand and get caught up in the whole thing.
To echo the comments above, your health and happiness really is first and foremost and i do sincerely hope everything works out and wish you all the best in the world for the future, whatever you choose to do , because, in the least cheesey way possible, you're an absolute starxxX

Thank you so much.

Thank you: -

For the songs, the shows, the indirect introduction to artists/actresses/films/photographers, for being a band to believe in (and also for being more than just a band), for recording one of my favourite songs of '08 (Nostalgia), and for being sweet and down to earth when I've met you.

I think it's safe to say that no other band will ever combine glamour and eyeliner with the ability to make new towns and major trunk routes sound sexy.

All the best for a full recovery, Dorian, and I wish you all well in your future endeavours.

To anybody reading this - don't forget to check out The Bon Bon Club, and the superb Millipedes!

Cheers

Jono

P.S.
It's a pity you never made your logo into a stick of rock!

So very saddened by this news Dorian. You and the other band members have left a significant mark on the music world, and that world will be poorer for The Long Blondes' absence. I can only wish you the best health and a complete recovery and hope that we will one day, soon, hear more great music from you again. Your music has made my life better and I will remain a fan always.

Best regards,

I havn't be so exicted about a band since I saw The Strokes for the first time. I was lucky enough to see you guys twice in California and they were some of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). Your music is absolutley classic to me, you were/are the second coming of Pulp and I loved it. Thank you so much for being such a huge creative burst; music, fashion, humor, all of it. So fucking fantastic. Please get better and know that you have a tremendous amount of people that really care about your band.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!

I dont know what to say Dorian , thats so sad! May you make a full recovery!

I will however say thanks to you all for the music and for the gigs. Cambridge (twice) , London and Copenhagen. The last five or so years have been great for the alternative music scene and you should be proud to have played a part in that.

I hope to see you all playing again one day somewhere.

This is indeed, sad news I actually heard about it on 6 Music, but it's wondeful to know your health (according to Kate) is vastly improving, and it's that which is of most importance. Know this my friend, you have enriched my life, and the musical moments (miniscule as they were) we shared both in performance and chatting, are forever carried with me daily, you sir are a true 'gent', as both musician and human being. As always, if there's anything I can contribute, it would be my great honor, as you and the rest of 'The Blondes' remain the most genuine people I've had the great fortune of sharing air space with. I'm over in a few weeks, hopefully a 'visit' can be arranged.

Best of everything mate,

Very sad to hear that you have been so unwell, Dorian :(. The Long Blondes’ music soundtracked some of the best and most fitting times of my student years, and spoke to me at a certain time in my life in all the ways you would have wished for. I’m so thankful for those songs, the moments that came with them and I will forever have an affinity to them in my heart. I’m also especially grateful to you personally for being so kind to my friend and me when you were on tour in ‘05, especially for taking the time out to talk to us when we were goofing around on student radio in Oxford. I can only pass on my sincerest best wishes, and hope you have a speedy recovery. They say time is a healer, but I really think music is, and hope it gives you all the strength and inspiration you need for your times ahead.
Warmest wishes, Alexia xxx
