Parsley Flakes – We Need Friends – Tour 2007 – Papa Parsley's Journal

Morgantown, WV – September 12th 2007
We have the night off so we decide to make up some miles between Athens, OH and Philly by heading east to stay with our friend Andy in Morgantown, which is home to West Virginia University and subsequently home to one of the coolest things that I have ever seen; the personal rapid transit system. It is like something out of the Jetsons. It connects downtown, campus and the dorms; it's completely automated and costs 50 cents for a ride. It has tires and rides along on elevated tracks over the town and offers some really cool views of the river and the mountains. It felt like we were on the Hooberbloob Highway! After zipping around on that for a while, we eat, get a good night sleep, wake up the next morning and head to Philly.
Special Thanks: Andy, and whoever invented the personal rapid transit system.

Philadelphia, PA – September 13th 2007
We hit some pretty serious traffic getting into metro Philly, and after spending the whole day in the car this can become a kind of torture. We finally work our way into the city and head to west Philly (which we hear is the best Philly). As soon as we get off of the freeway a crazy woman starts yelling at us from her car. My anxiety is heightened by the fact that this woman is wearing a shower cap. We play at a big old house, down in the musty dusty dirty nasty basement. The real highlight of the night however, was Lucky's Chinese food. I got what seemed to be pounds of sesame tofu and white rice for like 5 bucks, and then ate it over the course of the next 24 hours on about 3 separate occasions.

Worcester, MA – September 14th 2007
We play at a firehouse that was built in the 19th century; it looked a lot like Ghostbusters HQ. Everybody there was totally down for a dance party and the show was superb. A local Worcester folk legend played as well and he was a real joy to watch. He had a song about pizza in New England that was really great (if anyone knows his name please tell me). In the morning one of our new friends from the Firehouse was nice enough to take us to a real deal local diner, in one of those old diner cars, where everybody had a real New England accent, super authentic Americana. I got hashbrowns.
Special Thanks: everybody at the Firehouse, and the folk pizza guy

NYC, NY – September 15th and 16th
We take showers, then we bum around Brooklyn. It is nice to be in a hyper urban environment again. Our friends Numbers who we played with in Cleveland have a show on Saturday with our friends from Brooklyn, Team Robespierre and since we have the night off, we head out to the show. It's good to see Numbers again, and after all the driving we've been doing it's pretty nice to be able to take the subway around town and leave the wagon behind for a change. Eating NYC pizza and sushi is pretty banging as well. Our show in Brooklyn on Sunday was pretty uneventful, but it was nice to see friends and be in the City for a couple days. We have a long drive ahead of us, so we decide to leave right after the show. We spend nine of our ten dollars that we made at our show crossing the Verrazano Narrows Bridge onto Staten Island on our way out to New Jersey and parts south. New York is fucking expensive…
