San Francisco, CA (Thursday, March 5th, 2009)

Kicking off Women's History Month at The Great American Music Hall, the Bay Area women's artist collective, WomenROCK, will celebrate three years of organizing, fundraising for local non-profits, collaborating and supporting one another with four amazing, star-studded, female-fronted acts. A show not to be missed!

"This will be an epic celebration of successful, powerful, female artists working together to rise up in song to build community, empower and inspire," says the celebration's organizer, musician and WomenROCK visionary, *bernadette*. "We are rocking the music industry in our own
forward-moving and conscious-permeating way!" There will be special guest sit-ins by nationally acclaimed musician allies of these talented women: Gabby La La of Les Claypool's Band, James Nash of the Waybacks, John Krimstock of Lauren Hill, Jay Bowman, Dave Brogan of ALO, Veronica Klaus, poet, Sam Flot, Lantz Lazwell and many more!

WomenROCK's celebration will also launch the 2009 Harmony Festival's Goddess Temple. "The Harmony Festival has a long history of promoting female musicians as well as supporting causes that are important to women," says Festival Program Director Sean Ahearn. "Our Goddess Temple area is a core attraction at our event, featuring a performance stage for female artists and vendors and exhibitors. We are excited to bring a little harmony vibe and support to this great music showcase."

WomenROCK is supported by the National Organization for Women (NOW), the largest, most comprehensive feminist advocacy group in the United States. NOW takes action to bring women into full participation in society — sharing equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities with
men, while living free from discrimination. NOW stands against all oppression, recognizing that racism, sexism and homophobia are interrelated, and that other forms of oppression such as classism and ableism together keep power and privilege concentrated in the hands of a few.

In the three years of their existence, WomenROCK has fundraised for many Bay Area organizations, including IMPACT Bay Area, Breast Cancer Action, Blue Bear School of Music, and the Women's Community Clinic.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:

Kim Manning (www.kimmanning.com)-
P-Funk Allstar, Kim Manning, has been hitting the national scene with her combination of Funk, Rock, and Hip-Hop.  As an improvisational artist Kim has been seen singing with such great acts as Garaj Mahal, Blue Turtle Seduction, JFJO, Papa Molly, the Everyone Orchestra, String Cheese Incident, and her own Jam Factory.  This VH1 celebreality star blows you away with her 4 1/2 range vocals and Fender Rhodes playing.
Kim will be accompanied by Lantz Lazwell, Joseph Koniak, Marcos de Fluri, and Randy Shultz. Kim is a member of WomenROCK.

Pamela Parker - (www.PamelaParkerMusic.com) "Parker
oozes organic soul in her performances and arrangements," says Music Connection Magazine of Pamela Parker's latest release,
Beautiful Day Pamela has toured nationally and in addition, also fronts an east coast outfit called "Roots a Risin'". Her live band shines with a Juicy-Bluesy-Funky-Soul-Rock sound.  Pamela also plays regularly at The Fillmore and is always seen sitting in with great acts that come through the area, recently singing with Bernie Worrell with Eric McFadden and RonKat at The Boom Boom Room.  She has appeared on bills with many, including the Mickey Hart Band, Steve Kimock, George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic, Arrested Development, Rusted Root, Citizen Cope and many more. Pam is also a member of WomenROCK.

*bernadette* (www...bernadettelovesyou.com*..bernadette*
is taking the stage by storm with her vibrant musical presence, unique
vocal sound and a flower in her hair. She is described as 'soulful
angst- Bonnie Raitt meets Courtney Love'. *bernadette* writes
heartfelt, sultry songs that encapsulate the essence of San Francisco's
timeless sound with a 60's sensibility and authentic purity. She has
played the grand rooms at The Fillmore, Independent, Slim's, Bottom of the Hill, Café Du Nord and festivals around the Bay. Backed by
co-conspirateur, Garrin Benfield on guitar, the two harmonize and play together akin to Gillian Welch & David Rawlings but with a brutally honest, soul-bearing live performance. With the tightest, in-the-pocket rhythm section, D. Shani Johnson on drums and Pete Canton on Bass, Shoshana Dimona grooves on keys, Alan Williams textures with trombone, and the angelic sounds of Mayumi Urgino on Violin, Sonia Deninzon on cello, create a beautiful and haunting soundscape that brings these seasoned players together in depth, form and musical brilliance. *bernadette* has been joined on stage with touring greats, Brett Dennen, RadioActive of Spearhead and many more and is the visionary and founding member of WomenROCK.

Valerie Orth
(www.myspace.com/vlomusic) is described as "neo-Ani," and her lyrics hit hard personally and
politically. Her music grooves hard, ranging from folk to funk and she does it all with a soft tornado of passion. The San Francisco Bay Guardian calls Valerie "soulful, genuine, and edgy." Her rock band consists of Abigail Picache on drums, Stephen Goodwin on bass and Jillian Yu on keyboards.  Singing beautiful harmonies, these seasoned musicians enhance the band's constantly-evolving sound. Together, their
dynamic music creeps into the subconscious of the listeners, often taking them to a dream world. Valerie is the co-founder of WomenROCK.
