hello from right in front of the heater at my house. actually I may need to move at this rate lest I catch on fire. So tour dates are being booked at an alarming rate and I want to keep these shows as cheap as I can - ticket-wise, not content (cue comedic drum roll) coz I know times are tough for many and paying rent is always funner when you can actually do it BUT you need to get out and hear live music (especially a girl singer/songwriter with a flash guitar and a wurlitzer all the way from Auckland via Foxton), see movies and have a pint at your local with your mates or life is no fun at all. I repeat - no fun at all!
Anyway on a different note, I just came from Roundhead Studio where I was singing on THE telethon song - you know the one - with some flash tv people and a few musos thrown in for good measure and possibly tunefulness ALTHOUGH some of those tv people can sing, go figure. SO at the end of the day there's my friend Kiri and I 'recording' a few more bv's just behind the dude from C4 doing his spiel thing and he's talking on camera about some of the country's best musicians being involved in the new telethon song (of which we were supposed to be a shining example) and then all the boys in the control room start making Kiri and I sound like chipmunks but only in our headphones. This began slowly so suspicions were raised and escalated till panic set in resulting in us falling apart (more me than Kiri coz she held it together and I just cracked up) looking ridiculous and still trying to sing but sounding really bad. Meanwhile the boys in the control room rolled on the floor laughing their heads off with tears running down their faces.
Neil Baldock - engineer to the stars, indeed your finest hour.
If you lovely blog readers are lucky you may see this for yourself on C4 sometime soon. I hope not for the love of God.
But I DO hope to see you at a show somewhere in NZ - send me a favourite song and I'll see if I can learn it!!
xx Miriam
