Hi all-

Just wanted to touch base with some recent news. The news this week is that I am no longer with the band! I figured I might as well post it here and make it official. I have had an excellent time the past four years working with Robbie, Derik and Paul and I really wish them the best as they continue on without me. They are three of the most talented musicians I have worked with and they no doubt made me a better musician in the process. I'd like to think that I inspired them as well.... Hope so. I am happy to call them friends regardless if we work together or not.

Why did this happen now? Honestly, we just grew apart musically. I was always the prog guy in the band and they don't care to be a prog band anymore. Simple as that. It became clear to them that I was not going to work out on the next CD or my musical directions. I guess I should have seen this coming. For about 24 hrs I has mixed feelings about it- they ran the gamut of emotion. But I woke up this morning feeling excited about future musical possibilities. I did a lot of things before this band, which I am sure many of you remember and I am going to pick up where I left off.

Honestly, I feel that I have gone about as far as I can doing muscular instrumental work, now that I have stopped and reflected. I feel we pretty much "been there, done that" after the first Speechless CD and while we were almost done writing CD two in a similar vein, it kinda proved pointless to do yet another one like that and I don't think that was in their hearts (and even I was starting to have doubts, though it seemed another one was a good idea when we started it). I think it's probably for the best for all of us because my feelings about music and what I want out of it and what I consider good have changed a lot in the past four years, without me even realizing it.

I have no concrete plans yet, but there's a few different projects on the horizon though, one of which will be familiar to many of you long time readers. Basically I am looking forward to writing with no particular style in mind. Whatever my muse is that day I will chase. Thanks for following my career as it takes another turn. I wish the guys the best and I know whatever they will do will be quality and most of all ROCK!

I really enjoyed writing these blogs for all these years... I am going to miss it.  Feel free to contact me at http://www.myspace.com/georgiaguitar

Peace and Happy Holidays!

Holy schnikees! Didn't see that one comin'! These things are always double-edged; shocking and sad in one vein ,and exciting and promising in the other. Glad I got to see the Sweetwater show.

Will you finish the new CD? I hope so, as what I heard at Sweetwater was outstanding.

Well, I have your MySpace link and will keep in touch. Let me know if you start a blog series.

Best of luck to you.
You're leaving your friends anxious for more!
Cheers and good regards,

A.B.W.

"Holy schnikees! Didn't see that one comin'! " Heh, you aren't the only one.....

"Will you finish the new CD? I hope so, as what I heard at Sweetwater was outstanding." Thanks. THEY will finish the CD, minus my tunes.

"You're leaving your friends anxious for more!" Yeah, bittersweet it is.

Peace to ya Doc!

Hi Sean,

I have to say I was very sad to hear about this from Derik, but I am happy to read your positive attitude about the whole thing. Your blog shows some of the reasons why I respect you as a friend and musician. You've responded to this with great class and professionalism, and I am encouraged by your optismistic outlook.
I hope we can still hang out occasionally and "talk shop" as we always do! I wish you great success in all of your future endeavors!

Best wishes!

Keith

Life is change. I could go on and on blah, blah, blah! What a drag. This would be a lot worse if I didn't relate so well.

Guido's Hand

It is always a hard decision. I know when I decided to end Guido's hand I was phusically sick over it for a while. But you have to follow your heart. I hope it works out for the best for both you and them. I really thought the newer material was stronger than the previous and was looking forward to hearing it.

Time out of Mind is still in heavy rotation in my playlist, so I'm very sad to see you are leaving.

How will this affect the Speechless MySpace page?

That's good advice to yourself - you're a mature, thoughtful musician, experienced in playing (and more importantly, listening) capable of doing so many things, and now its time to succeed at something new, however you feel like defining success.
I've left projects because I felt I was in a musical rut - other times projects have left me because I was in a rut and didn't know it!!!

Don't let the "loss of identity" thing hang ya up either - it always happens when you leave a job, a band, a relationship. You're still the same person as last month. The weather doesn't affect the horizon.

I know that Deril, Paul and Robbie and Sean will all make this a good change for everyone.

plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose

SON OF A....THAT'S gonna leave a mark. I am despondant about the split and elated about the direction of the new "parts" left in the wake thereof. May ALL of you break many legs.

Best wishes to you all,

You flew the coupe?? WOOOOOOAH !! Never saw THAT coming.

You are an amazing musician Sean, and whatever you decide to do after this will definately benefit from your talent. Grow and prosper !! Let your creative juices flow. Don't be stifled by what others want/think of you. Does this mean you could go SOLO (ever thought of that??) Whichever direction you decide, we are supportive, AND understanding. Sorry to hear you go, but sometimes you must do what you must do. Every great artist must find his place.
Fly, Sean, fly !!

WOW! Sean, I can understand your decision 100%. I've quit doing Comics for some of the very same reasons recently. I know, with your talent, you'll continue to create new and excellent music for us all to enjoy, and I look forward to hearing that 'prog' epic you've got somewhere inside you that's dying to get out! I've enjoyed working with you on the Speechless art, and I hope we can continue to work together some time in the future. Good Luck to you! Keep in touch.

Hey All!
Hope everyone had a GREAT holiday season! Just wanted to throw in some info here. While Sean was right that we grew apart in musical direction, do not fear. We don't, (and won't) claim to be a "Prog" band, but the same elements of adventurous song writing as you know from the first CD are still going to be very evident on the next one.

Speechless never set out to "be" anything in particular as far as what genre of music we wanted to be classified as. In fact, we wanted to be our own thing. It just happened that with Sean's prog connections, that's where we were put. And it was great to see that the prog audiences accepted us. No disrespect here at all, but prog fans can be very picky as to what they think is & isn't prog, and with us being a bit vague, we were accepted with open arms from a great many prog fans. Speechless only ever wanted to make music that we enjoyed playing, and that hopefully many listeners enjoyed.... well, listening to! (hehe). Speechless is still working on the next CD, and while we are going to lay low on what exactly we're going to do, (change names, add vocals, go on as a 3 piece, add another guitarist, sell Paul to a foreign sweat-shop, buy Derik a new hat...) you can be guaranteed that another CD will be out soon, and it will be a grand step up from the last one.

If ya liked the last one, just you wait.
:)

Sean and Speechless are still good friends, sincerely support one another. While it's true that parting ways is never easy at first, like Sean said, it's a chance to breathe some new air and see what else the future holds.
To ALL of our fans out there, just hang tight, we're not done yet! :)

Derik

Sell Paul to a sweat shop? Name change? Vocals? how you gonna go on as a 3 piece if you add a guitarist? thats gonna be four unless.............OH NO !! I saw a band that reminded me of you guys, they were heavier and had vocals....Umphreys Mcgee!! (they have 6 members) It was an amazing to hear how much you guys sound alike. maybe not now that you guys are changing everything. BUT I STILL LOVE YA !! get your butts to HOUSTON TEXAS !! Its not "country" here at all.
