Current mood:  excited
Category: Music

In the spirit of new mixes and being able to upload mixes for the masses, I have finally gotten off my duff and put a mix (or two) on my page.
Special thanks to Kaleem for putting his mix up on his page (which is banging I might add) and igniting the inspiration to get on the flippin' ball.

I am in the process of fine-tuning my sound going from a whole lotta vocals into some more deep, moody vibes. I love vocals like the next man but I grew a little tired of EVERY song being a vocal. Coupled with the fact I didn't realize how many vocal songs I have vs. non vocals! Moreover I started feeling a touch self conscious about my street cred. I want it to be known I can still take it to the streets and not be viewed solely as a vocal dj. I want to go deeper, bigger, dirtier, and edgier. That's where i come from; I come from all walks of life -- scenes, sounds, cultures, etc. I want that to show in my music.

This mix stems from my homework and growing respect of Kerri Chandler. He recently came out with an EP under the moniker Dick Dickler. All the songs are well produced but also gritty and a little dirty. Above all (and if you know me, you will know this to be true) I think the alias is hilarious along with the style of his tracks. They are crazy sleazy. I love sleaze in a character and especially if you can pull it off correctly -- I'd say Kerri does it well. All the songs begin with some sleazy vocals, some of them sounding like some early 80's porn star.
I can go on about the genius of Dick Dickler but I will save that for a blog page or something. wait. no. Okay well, a REAL blog page *stay tuned*. This mix is created around the Dick Dickler character. I include three of the EP tracks using it as my inspiration. All the other songs have to do with love, lust, sex, etc. Some of them are not necessarily 'sex'y songs but they are meant to serve as symbolism. The middle of the mix is full of percussion and tribalesque rhythms symbolizing the climax and then it comes down as if to say the ride is coming to an end concluding with the question in every lover's head.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. I consider it my best mix yet. There is vocals, there is tribal, big room, back room, underground and euphoria...and of course, a little bit of sleaze.

enjoy.

did you get the actual record or did you download? not trying to stir the pot or anything in the vinyl vs. download war. i ask only because if you got the record, as i did, it's kind of cool how they put it inthe brown bag with the title "adult material" or something to that effect, as if you were buying a dirty mag from a news stand.

another note, how are you feeling the phuturistix. i met him in london over the christmas break. he's a really cool dude!

unfortunately I got the DL as the record shop buyers up here are not fly enough to get something as genius as Dick Dickler. I did see the brown paper bag joint at the Amoeba in Hollywood and i was highly tempted to buy it for collector's sake.
I may still try and cop it. We'll see.

Phuturistix is dope. I have this track "Beautiful" which has a sick D&B remix my man Jayvon put on one of my favorite D&B mix CDs he put together.

there's a bugz remix of "beautiful" that is "bananas," as you'd say .. that is if you're talking about the jenna g joint.
