Short and sweet,
beware of Twitter.
It allows any1 to abuse your identity.
I have been busy and frankly a user of
Twitter w/a following as well.
Friday night, Countdown's Keith Obermann
declared an imposter was using his likeness
to fool 13,000+ followers into believing
the imposter was him even after he contacted Twitter.
I have blogged on Facebook as well
encouraging bloggers to barage Twitter in protest since what happened to Olberman
can just as easily happen to any blogger.
Like I blogged on Facebook,
"Imagine if someone posted your grad or wedding pic's from the NET or university year book
then set up an account claiming to be you,
then posted it maliciously on porn sites,
wrote malicious things about you such as
untrue sexual preferences, who you were dating,
political affiliations, memberships, if u smoked other than cigarettes
in a day where employers actually
check out blogs?"
Whoa, that's why I am raising Cain!
Bloggers and individuals have rights to their privacy and the protections of blog sites
when notified by individual that their
identity is being misrepresented without their permission even if they are a celebrity,
then the creators/owners of site bear
equal responsibility if not face
tort charges such as in the case
of Carol Burnett vs The Enquirer.
Guess what it is the same.
Why, because the Enquirer knew it defamed Ms Burnett, and so does Twitter since clearly
Olbermann never signed over rights of the use of his image or personna to any one
and what is being done is malicious impersonation and Twitter knows it.
Now, there are those who clearly identify themselves as spoofs by including
'notSuperman'
for example in their blog names.
For me, I believe bloggers should have a blogger's Bill of Rights/Conduct code
prohibiting the deliberate malicious use of an actual person to the detriment of that person be they a private person like most bloggers or a public individual.
I notified the nation's universities fraters/sorors I have on Facebook. There are hundreds informing them of this encouraging protesting this site.
Hopefully, a student nation wide smack down will provide bloggers with rights
we as bloggers don't have while
protecting an individual's identity from being
used in an unauthorized way.
Yes, if a site fails to 'do the right thing'
and not act like
TWITS
then bloggers should jump ship
guess where the revenue would come from then?
The ethernet?
Equally, no one individual or political group s/b allowed to ban a person from forums
unless the blogger first is informed of the accusation by whom and why so they
can respond instead of letting some nebulous minders ban them from forums.
Populace power is a powerful force
that when harnessed can force changes even to blog sites, any and all blog sites.
I love to have the news talk about this issue since this affects all bloggers.
Like I said fellow bloggers,
we can fight back purely by leaving enmasse
thus having a chilling affect on site's revenues.
Comprehende?!
Right!
Bloggin is a two way street.
We bring our opinions that should not be censured regarding a topic, and advertisers seeking to sell us their wares while the site gets paid.
Therefore we should be respected as revenue streamers, and a person's identity should never be compromised for malicious or pranked reasons without written permission such that when contacted, the account s/b changed with all streams changed or deleted.
Comment if you want!
