Hooked up briefly with Ronnie Greer's fine band for a couple of songs during the Woody Guthrie Anniversary gig in the Empire, Belfast last October... it felt good to me and it must have sounded reasonably interesting to Ronnie and the band because a few weeks later we were talking about the possibility of getting together for a few gigs in 2008.... a double pleasure for me because I'd been interested for some time in getting together with Ronnie's most recent recruit from Coleraine, Anthony Toner (gtr and vocals) ... Anthony is a fine player and a damn good songwriter!... he sits right in the pocket with Ronnie's band and his country/blues style lends exciting new options to the band.
Ronnie Greer is such a fine guitar player himself with a delicious jazzy twist to his blues interpretations and an open and generous attitude towards exploring new directions.... so only an eejit would spend more than 30 seconds considering an offer like that! We had a blow one night to see how it might work and it felt natural and rythmic so we'll be rehearsing up a 'guest set' for me to sit in with them on some gigs starting in April... can't wait!
