I went to see a friend of mine who lives on a farm. He has this chicken that he raised from a bitty thinking one day it would make a nice tasty Sunday dinner. Early on the chicken was attacked by one of his dogs. He was in real bad shape. Puncher wounds all over and almost dead. So he gave the chicken some first aid, cleaned him up, and wrapped him in a towel to hold him together. The chicken survived! Now, years later, here I am we’re walking around the farm and this mangy old chicken is following us around like a little puppy dog. It’s almost become another member of the family. We walked down to one of his pastures to mend a fence. He starts telling me about barbed wire and how this invention was important in the early days of the American South West. Out on the open ranges where wood might have been scarce. It shaped your way of life, settlement, economic development, and the list goes on and on. Just something I never gave much thought about. Well, there you have it. Another day in the life….
