Why am I running for Jeffersontown City Council?  Thats a fair question.  I truly care about this community & want to see it continue to prosper & grow.  I want to have a say in the decisions that affect us.  I also believe I have a better understanding of the issues that are important to the majority of our citizens.  I have no "special interest" to cater to & will base all decisions on whats best for all, not just a few.

I think the number one priority of most people that live here is security.  A safe environment to raise your family & to grow old is of the upmost importance.  We have not been plagued by crime that blights many other parts of the Metro area, but it is creeping ever closer, all the time.  We have to continually work to improve things, otherwise we could end up like other areas where it's not safe .  I don't feel comfortable where people have  bars on their windows in order to keep the "Bad Guys" out!  You can rest assured that I will work with local law enforcement to give them all the resources they need to do their job.

Another concern many of you have are "Roads".  There are many roads here that are in need of attention.  Turning lanes, stop lights, potholes etc.. all need to be addressed, but the all too familiar response is "that is a State or Metro issue".   We need to take control of "OUR" roads!!!  I would work closely with Metro & State government in order to communicate our needs better & to expedite improvements.

My 3rd concern is the continued support of our youth & senior citizens.  Many times the weakest amoung us go unnoticed & neglected.  There are numerous ways we can improve services to these groups.

Finally the Industrial Park.  Many people don't realize that the majority of the City's revenue comes from employment taxes.  It's that money that allows us to fund the things we've come to expect here in J-town.  We need to make the necessary improvements that are required in today's world, in order to keep it competitive with other Industrial Parks or it will continue to decline.  With out the "Golden Goose"  there is NO J-TOWN as we know it.

If you agree with my positions please let me know.  If you don't, let's discuss it & find out what our differences are.  Working together, hopefully we can come to a better understanding.

Thank You,

"Chubby Ray" Perkins
