SPECIAL ANNOUNCMENT!
With co-host, DJ Laurie, we will be presenting radio show and live web stream, "Connect the Dots" on WNUR 89.3FM in the Chicago/Evanston, IL area or at http://www.wnur.org Sundays, 5-6pm (CST) starting April 6th.
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
As music lovers, we have spent countless hours in record stores, on our
laptops, and at live performances finding new music. Eventually, we became interested in the patterns – the connections – among the bands. Like making a good mix-tape, we would listen to one song and immediately think about how it would link up with another. Can we get from Chicago free jazz to Italian electronica in 3 or 4 songs with shared musicians? Can we go from Chicago advant-garde to New Orleans funk to Sun Ra to Chicano rock in 6 songs? Absolutely!
We are calling our show "Connect the Dots" because we will move from point to point and explore how one band’s member connects to another as we go from song to song. On the way, we’ll hit a surprisingly diverse and eclectic group of tunes, but the music will always be fantastic. We have strong connections to Chicago and New Orleans, so expect to hear a lot from those two cities; but as the connections continue to build, we’re likely to end up in New York, Santa Fe, San Fran, North Carolina, or anywhere on the globe.
As a bonus, on each show we’ll feature a guest from one of the bands for either an in-studio or a phone interview. Our concentration will be to feature underrepresented bands on smaller indie labels but we’ll occasionally throw some more established artists in the mix to demonstrate how interconnected even lesser-known music can be. We aim to give exposure to the many talented yet still somewhat unknown local bands and show how they fit into the larger national and international music scenes. The listening audience will be surprised to find out how many links exist and how extraordinarily diverse they are.
Our show will start on Sunday, April 6th, 5-6pm (CST) and will run every Sunday for a few (to maybe more) months. So tune in, from anyway on the globe.
Podcasts of the show will also become available...details to come.
