Hi all,....
First off. Just wanted to say that this morning, I am very, very proud of my
fellow Americans. Regardless of who you voted for, you were passionate enough,
and cared enough to get out there and make a difference. It overwhelms me to
see so many take a stand for what they believe in, and stop the complacency
that has so overrun this great country. ....
All of us, I am quite sure, have been overrun as well with emails regarding
both sides of the fence. I know I have. I want to take a minute to remind us
all:....
This beautiful country you live in is called the *UNITED* States of America.
We live in a democracy that many, many other human beings wished they could be
so fortunate enough to live in. Being a part of that democracy means that all
of us have rights.....
We have the right to freedom. Free to choose what religion we wish, whether
you are Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Athiest, or just want to pray to frogs- you
have that right. But keep in mind one thing- so does EVERY other person in this
country. Respect that.....
We also are a melting pot of every kind, every race, creed, color, sex, and
sexual orientation. Need I remind you that women have only been legally
voting for less than 100 years? People of color, shamefully less? ....
I write this, with tears in my eyes, because I love my country, I love all
of you, my fellow Americans. I love my soldiers, and love all of those
who have died to ensure our freedom, our safety, our pursuit of happiness. This
campaign brought out some of the ugliest, sexist, racist emails and comments I
have ever seen. I pray that all of us can remember that our
differences are what make us Americans, that it is NOT unpatriotic to be one
political party or another, it is NOT unpatriotic to have different
religious views, and the fact that you can a live in a country where you have
that freedom? Is a beautiful thing. It truly saddens me to realize that
for some people freedom is only an entitlement to those who share their
views, their sex, their race, their religion.....
I hope that we can all take this newfound passion, keep it going, and
truly unite this country, because at our best, we truly are the greatest
nation, we can move mountains, and yes, we can make a difference. ....
