Current mood:Sad and happy at the same time... Category: Music
Last night was the last show on the Patty tour. I'm sad! Just a few things here and there from here on out. This is the best job I've ever had. I wish it could be longer. Anyway, we played at the Charleston Music Hall last night. As usual, Scott Miller was opening the show for us. He's been so awesome the whole tour. We just love him to pieces. So what better way to show it on the last night than totally screwing with his set. On the 2nd song, Patty and I went out on stage wearing head scarves and sunglasses, each of us with an unlit cigarette dangling from our lips. We sat on the side of the stage and opened a couple magazines like a couple white trash housewives, ignored the audience and Scott, and proceeded to point things out to each other in the magazines, smoke, and talk on the phone. While this was going on, Frank (our electric bassist) walked out there, right next to Scott, dumped a load of towels on the floor and started folding them. Dougie (guitar) joined in after another minute, walking out to the other side of Scott from Frank, and started juggling oranges. While all this was going on, Bruce (guitar tech) was throwing toilet paper streamers across the back of the stage. Roy (front of house mixer) brought out a couple brooms and mops and put them in Scott's guitar rack. When the song was almost over, Pat (monitors) lowered a pre-existing prop onto the stage from the rafters... 2 eighteen foot wooden soldiers. I don't think the audience understood what was going on, but it was fun for us. Before he started the next song, Michael, (drums) walked out with a waiter's towel over his arm and served Scott from our jug of moonshine. It was classic! He got us back, though. During "Love Throw a Line" he came out onto the stage with the mop and walked all around the stage mopping, concentrating on the areas around all of our feet. Patty was laughing so hard, she could barely get out the second verse. After the show, we all hung out in the dressing room for a while, hugging and drinking wine. We got our stuff from the hotel and got on the bus where Patty had a birthday cake waiting for Frank and I. We all ate cake, drank Guinness and Moonshine, talking and laughing. It was an awesome last night. I know it's not totally over, little things here and there, maybe another tour in the spring. It's so weird though, even though it's only been 8 months, I feel like these people are my family. I guess that's what happens when you spend 8 months with 9 people on a tour bus! I love the people, I've loved the experience. Can't wait to do it again next year! In the meantime, I'm going to take some time to myself to get back into life in Nashville after this little run with Uncle Earl. Then who knows what? Maybe I'll make a record...
