What does the word gay mean to you? It should mean homosexual, someone that prefers the same gender.
People now use the word gay in a completely new and wrong way. I have heard people in the gay community say stuff like "I'm gay." or "Ani DiFranco is a gay icon." But in the straight world it's "That is so gay." or "Shut up you gay."
Really, do straight people think that gay is a swear word? Cause I would never say something like "Shut up you straight" or That's so hetro".
In tech I've heard certain people say that they hate girls that say they're bi just to gain male attention or show off. First, your straight so why is it your concern? The only people they are insulting are the truely bi girls. Second, they may truely be bi just prefer men.
However, these girls annoy me too, not because they are pretending but because they are obviously getting more out of being bi than I am.
I know I'm being cynical because a little while ago people couldn't come out for fear of everything and now being gay isn't such a big deal. But gays are still this other type of humans, like racists still talk about blacks in a bad way. Some gays let their sexuality define who they are; by wearing rainbows, cutting their hair off, listening to dykey music and watching dyke rom coms but for me that stuff is a rite of passage, it's my interests and style.
It's part of who I am.
So please forgive me if I don't like someone saying something is gay or someone should say they are bi. Cause sometimes something really is gay or bi. |
