Welcome back. I hope everyone had an awesome Halloween.

Starting Friday night around 11pm my son started vomiting and continued into the early hours of the morning, at least it stopped by 4 or 5 am.
This changed our plans for the weekend drastically. It also sucked on a gigantic level for him. I mean come on, it's Halloween, the one time of the year where kids anxiously await to get free candy and imagine having a stomach bug that has you puking your guts out.Not good.
Anyway, he ended up going trick or treating with my wife and i. He was a skeleton and my wife did an awesome job on his face make-up. My wife and i both did our face with makeup just to make him feel more special that night.
He didn't stay out long but at least he got have fun last night.

How did you spend your Halloween?

Well afterwards when he was asleep my wife and i decided to watch "Drag me to hell" by Sam Raimi as part of the Halloween festivities.

 Here's the review.

Drag Me to Hell

Before we started watching this movie my wife asked me what the story of the film was and to be honest i didn't even know and had never looked it up on www.imdb.com before. So we started watching this movie cold and this is just a quickie review with a longer one below with spoilers.
Day 3 Photo
Comic-Con: Day 3

Honestly neither my wife or i was very impressed with this film. If i wanted to see a horror movie that had slapstick comedy in it i would have showed her Zombieland instead. Drag me to hell was nothing short of an utter waste of both of our time. My wife described it as a movie that shouldn't have been made and i have to agree with her on this. This film wasn't scary or impressive and therein lies the problem.Pure  garbage.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Spoilers*Spoilers* Spoilers*
The mian character Christine  was likable but most of the time she just got on my nerves. From the first time she tried to impress her boss by refusing the old woman who needed an extension on her mortgage payment and doing the "tough choice".
Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Even when the poor old woman is literally on her knees begging Christine not to take away her house, kissing the hem of her dress the whole time. Then calls security for her and shames her in public. She get's cursed by the old lady and in 3 days she will be dragged to hell by a lesser demon.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
There was just too many scenes where the comedy totally killed any kind of tension that was being built up by previous scenes.

There was a type of gore but again this might have worked during the Evil Dead movies here it fell absolutely flat. But hey, i never liked Army of Darkness. I liked the Evil Dead 1 and 2 but....

If you want to see a movie that incorporates humor but still has a killer edge to the movie. If you want an awesome viewing experience for the Halloween( Yes i know it's the day after) spirit watch Zombieland.

Later on this week i'll be doing another Blog with quite a few finished pieces of artwork from Silent Scream(without lettering) and 1 or 2 others that are works in progress.

Here's my review for Zombieland.

Yes i know i just gave everyone a sensory oveload with all of those images but that's how the movie played for me.

At first when i saw the trailer i was happy and worried at the sametime. Hollywood has a tendancy to kill a trend by making crappy movies and overusing whatever trend is hot at the time.

Except in this case. I had hoped this movie was going to be as good as the trailer  and in reality it was better than i could have hoped for.

The only bad thing i have to say about this movie is the length. it's around 1 hour and 20 minutes long. when you watch the movie though the director manages to pack so much into the time he has that longer might have killed the momentum he bulit up throughout the whole film.

Woody Harrelson's character "Tallahasse" is worth seeing just for how over the top he is. Not since Natural Born Killers has Woody Harrelson been so perfectly cast. That and all of the inventive ways he kills zombies throughout the film. He is absolutely fearless when it comes to zombie killing. Most of the times you almost feel bad for the zombies. Almost. But then you find out why he hates them so much and that little magic piece of the puzzle makes his attitude towards them understandable.Personally i couldn't see anyone else play this character apart from Harrelson. He owns this character.

The director was very inventive in the way he incorporated the rules of the character "Columbus" into the film as something happens that his rules relate to. Very funny stuff. Not stupid funny though.

The level of gore and zombies drooling black sometimes red matter from their mouths was a constant source of distress for some people that watched the movie. Very high on the gag factor. Personally i loved it.

The action scenes are very well shot and paced through the movie. The human interaction was handled perfectly with a skilled hand.
Bill Murray has an awesome part in the movie. Small but very funny.

If you haven't seen this film yet but love Zombie movies, you should definitely check this film out. The humor is so dark and twisted that instead of taking away from the film like Drag me to Hell did, Zombieland shines with it's humor.Everyone should see this film. It's that good.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Rich.

Wow Can't believe u didn't like Drag Me To Hell. I felt the exact oppisite. There was a lot of tension and with out Tons of CGI. The movie felt more old school. And the idea was more original than most things I seen in years. I actually jumped a couple times and i can't remember the last time i jumped from a movie? Even the audience was reacting. Which  doesn't happen much. And the slap stick humor just seemed like a tribute to the Evil dead Trilogiy. So on this film i disagree.  And Zombie land was Awesome!. So I agree with u there. Now what do u Think of Trick R TReat?

Sorry Jon, i really didn't like Drag me to Hell at all. I just felt like He wasted every opportunity that he setup for an awesome scare with stupid slapstick humor. The biggest dissapointment for me this year as far as horror films go.

I really didn't like it but i completely understand why you did. Yes Raimi did use a lot of oldschool stuff in the film and i really wanted to like it but...

Too many of my friends saw Drag Me To Hell opening weekend and said it sucked that I never wasted my time on it. Sorry you had no clue and watched it.

Zombieland is probably the best non-cartoon movie I've seen this year. I love it so much. Makes it better that I worked in an amusement park for their Halloween thing and rode several rides the movie shows and giggled riding them since the movie came out.
Woody was definitely the BEST choice for Tallahassee, no one else could have been close to getting that character. My friends and I like to randomly quote Columbus's rules when they apply. Number 32 is the most quoted though, it is a good rule. :)

Oh, I spent my Halloween working at the amusement park. Scaring people is fun, when you're not running a fever and coughing your lungs out anyway.

That's too cool. You must have had a blast working there. Rule #32 is awesome. I thought all of his rules were well thought out and i love how the director worked them into the actual frames of the film. Genius.
