"I read this article and was blown away at how far I have come. Although I have not left the faith by any means, the person who wrote this did. And was all too familiar with many of the schemes and tatics experienced in this blog. It's unfortunate that so many people have missed out on true Pentecost because of a few." Here it goes: Reflections of being "in church" A learned lesson Undercurrents We found a certain percent of the members were selected to care for the other less important members... 20% of the elite took care of the 80%. People and families were targeted to either be spiritually nurtured or starved in hopes they stay or leave. So after discovering that I looked back on how our family was treated and wondered if that is why we were targeted to be neglected, in hopes that we would never return because they thought we weren't good enough for their church and their God? When "in church" you can't really make friends, unless you're a lucky one, part of ministry or join in on the backstabbing and snitching to gain a rank of acceptance with the preacher or his clique. He always needs snitches and holiness cops to help keep his flock in order and to warn him of dangerous people who could break up his control over everyone. When "in church" if your spouse isn't a follower or has more liberal Pentecostal ideals you are discouraged of following them as the head of the household and to rely on the preacher for direction since the spouse could lead you astray. Some are encouraged to leave their spouse to wake them up or divorce. Being "in church" your geared to be "tight knit" in one way so you don't stray from the legalism and control of the preacher. Who ever decides to make their own decisions without contacting others, the preacher or praying, beseeching, fleecing and fasting they are seen in most cases not really part of the flock and are seen as dangerous and are dealt with subtly or swiftly. When trying to get together with others you can't just talk... you have to stay focused on and discuss church functions, miracles that can happen if you dive deep and give all, punishment that will come down on you if you aren't bendable, pastor worship or the Bible. Hardly anyone really cares about you as a person. Most contacted us to check up on us to report back to the controlling preacher or to report to their gossip group. And they are only your friend, brother or sister if you are in their church or organization. Once you leave church or their church and go to a church down the street, you're no longer part of the flock. Yes, visiting a church across town that is within the same organization is considered disloyalty and you might be seen as a threat, church hopper, butterfly, someone spreading discourse, etc. You get the picture. It's shallow fellowship and a fake love. They claim to love, but if you don't fit within their ramifications of spiritual rightness or if they pre judge that you will never be bent into submission you will be treated in a way that will drive you away. They are isolationists, you cannot truly make friends within the church and you are not allowed to have friends or family who do not belong to the religion. You are told to cut off people who might "steal your salvation by corrupting your morals". If you still talk with others sometimes you are guilty by association and will be the object of taunt and repercussions. They practice religious prejudice and intolerance to anything other than their own doctrine or social arena. They focus on how you're a horrible sinner because your born into sin and how you have to die out daily and take up your cross. You constantly have to prove you are saved again and again by repenting, speaking in tongues, putting on display of spirituality within church services or prayer rooms, dressing according to the rules and anything else they want to throw in there. Legal opportunists to mold someone into submission. This is done so others in church can see that your "just" in the eyes of God and their barbaric imaginations. You're really answering to their presumed holiness. You have to adhere to strict holiness dress standards so the church members and pastor can judge and monitor your spirituality levels. If you don't line up to dress standards you will be shunned or called on the carpet so you will be taught a lesson or in hopes you leave because you are rebellious and not serious about living the Apostolic way of life. "You're not fit for the plow". If you still attend and don't adhere to their "convictions" or lack convictions you are fair game to whatever actions they deem worthy to make you submissible. No two churches teach the same exact by laws. If you attend one church for any extensive amount of time and learn to follow their rules and happen to relocate and attempt to follow the same rules as the previous church (if it was a more liberal or "live church" in worship) you are swiftly taught what's to be expected when attending the new church. If you feel that you aren't supposed to be at one particular church and feel you've heard from God and try to find a new church you will be a suspicious character and will remain in probation. Sometimes the character label and probation will never let up. You will not ever be accepted. They chalk up the church rule differences to "sovereign" tactics. Never returning After saying some of our history I say this. I realize church/religion thrives on peoples emotions. Faith is an emotion, fear is an emotion. You have to have faith to believe in God, and you have to have fear to believe in hell. And playing with peoples emotions by telling them that if they don't believe in God they will go to hell is a form of emotional abuse. Telling people if they aren't Apostolic Oneness Pentecostals they're going to hell is emotional manipulation and abuse. I sought out God for peace, love and grace and all I ended up hearing was hellfire and damnation sermons... having to dress holy, repenting sermon after sermon and speaking in tongues (outward appearances of salvation- works of the flesh) I was tired of proving my salvation/spiritual level to man and God. I didn't need to be reminded sermon after sermon, lesson after lesson how much a sinner I was or how many demons I would get after walking away in order to keep me on the pew. You cannot entice me with heaven by offering me hell. After realizing I was being controlled by the emotion of fear I made a vow to myself to walk away from all forms of emotional abuse. Yes I was a "seasoned saint" and was involved for over a decade but after living "in church" for years I realize those were wasted years and I was fooled into their legalistic fear driven views of obtaining access into heaven. Most of their laws and rules are based on paranoia and sheer greed to control a persons life. They teach, screech and lecture on the law and holiness... but rarely do you hear peace, love and joy to attain heaven! If heaven is mentioned it was either a prelude or an introduction on a scare tactic of eternal torment for not complying to some rule or ideal. I will never again be ruled by the emotion of fear to believe in God, heaven or hell or to follow by laws set within each separate church... it's abuse, plain and simple.

..This was an unfortunate experience.  It seems that their was no one to encourage this person in the Lord. We as believers have to gain a biblical understanding of Gods word for our selfs not  depending on the pastors. I believe that their are ministries that use schemes and tatice to control the people of God and that's unfortunate. Remember, the Lord did not call ever one to a pastoral position. Some just went, and that make a difference. This person talked about how this leader preach on heaven and hell in a most manipulating way, I personally believe this person was not  sent by the Lord. All i know is that the word of the Lord is true. A true prophet will preach the truth in love. The goodness and mercy of the Lord is wonderful, but their is a wrath that will come if we chose not to walk in obedience to his word. That's not a scheme. I never cared for the philosophy of men. It's the word of God that matters to me. The bottom line is to keep our eyes on Jesus at all times!!!The bible tell us that we shell know the truth, and it's the truth, that will set us free, and whom the son sets free is free indeed. And hellfire is only for those who has rejected Jesus Christ. Today in church we made a declaration to the Lord that we will love one another and come together in unity in order to be able to show the love of God to a lost and dieing world. The lord is up to something, time is out for playing church.  it's time that the body of Christ come together.
The spirit of the Lord showed up strong in our service today we were so hungry for him. I do identify with you Ton3x  when you said that you are blown away on how far you have come. I believe that Life problems and issues can sometimes beat on us so bad, that we forget that it's in him that we place our trust not in a man. And to know that our trials is only to makes us Strong.                                                                                                                    ..

Regardless of this I dont see the point of this message it is stuff we already know, the things we should be talking about is how we can change this behaviour with God's Word. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but He will bring us out of them all. I have been subject to this treatment while my marriage was near break up and the church when it came to the crunch didn't ask where is that Man of God who spent so much time helping at church and ministering to the young. This is more common than you think, right here in Australia. But we are stronger than that Christ has made us stronger thats why we stand in the truth of His word not the pastor's word His word...hopefully one day we'll have a people willing to love as Christ does.

Hello My Friend
Since I have been back in church, what has helped me stay in Church is...(Now this is just my est. and what I had to learn and deal with in my life. This is not a fact for anyone else)...75% of the Church goers I have come across are not True Believers, They are not trying to Truly follow Christ and Do what God expects His Church to do in the Earth. They live defeated lives by their own choice. They never read the Bible for themselves. They hear the word over and over, but are not willing to apply the word to their lives to help themselves Be better, or anyone else. They Don't want God they only want church and when the True Beleivers who really want All of God and those of us who really want to see God have His way in the Earth, Really Know these things. We will be set Free from the Hurt that Church Folks can cause and Keep Going to church pressing pass them and Get what we need from God, and then We can Go out in the world and Be that Blessing to others I know we can be.  I know alot of Good People that Love God, but Don't Like Church. I use to be one of them, but I had to face my fears and Yes the Devil came against me, but I kept pressing on because I wanted to Know God and I am learning I am right where God wants me to be right now. That is why I keep Pressing Past Church Folkes. I Go to Church for God...not the preacher, people, or not even for myself. I now know that ....No Church.... is perfect, but if I'm learning, growing, and seeing my life change for the better I'm Good. The Devil has had his way for a long time in The Church but now it's God's turn to have His way.
God Bless You Have a Great Week
Love and Peace

I too was born and raised in holiness. When the Lord plucked me out of the world and I joined the pentecostal church I was very serious about my relationship with the Lord.  Being a babe in Christ I was given my 1st by laws book and took one look and threw it in the trash being that it was mans bylaws and not the bible itself no disrespect to the church.  As I began to hear various sermons come over the pulpit and compared it to the word for myself that's when I began to question God about what I was being taught in the pulpit as oppossed to what the Word was saying.  Yall know the Jezabel story that was used to justify not wearing jewelry and makeup however when you read the story of Jezebel  it had nothing to do with her jewelry or makeup but when she became an harlot in her heart that's when everything attached to her became defiled.  One thing that I do appreciate about what I was taught growing up in the holiness church was how to reverence God and his house which has been lost in many churches now days.  I'm not talkin about religious rhetoric.  Tradiition of man was passed from generation to generation because that's what they were taught.  But it's a new day!  You better study to show yourself approved a workman that needeth not to be ashamed.  The Holy Spirit is our teacher and He will guide you into all truth!  Denominations are man made and continues to cause divisions in the Body of Christ.  Truly there is only one church that Christ is the Head of.  He does not dwell in temples made by hands. There is a reason God said to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  He said the heart is desperately wicked above all else who can know it? Only God can and each one of us will have to give account for what we have done here on earth.  There are those that say never question God but I say ask him what ever you want.

Tonex...believe me when I tell you that you're talking gospel truth right there, bro. Just a month ago I lost a friend of nearly 10 yrs to such a hyper-religious denominational mindset, all because her bishop/denomination believed that homosexuality/lesbianism could not be forgiven and I dared pull the "such as were some of you but now you are saved" out of Paul's epistles to the Corinthian church. It's that type of slavery and bondage that make religion a bad word in my vocabulary at times, and the spirit of religion very ANTICHRIST in that it divides the people of God, makes the word of God null and void by vain traditions, and tacks it's own 99 theses(man-made traditions) to the door of salvation(Jesus, the ONLY Way to God). REAL TALK.

Yo this is so true! This is my current experience befoere I started hanging with a new group of ppl from the church who are nolonger members I was "warned" However I told the ppl who warned me that I must do what I belive the Lord is leading me to do! So I have broadened my circle of friend and I have been truly blessed for it they are truly great ppl and I am learning alot form them and from the interaction that I have with them! They have caused me to greatly expand my thinking I am so thankful that I know how to follow my heart and to hear from the Lord for myself instead of being reliant on someonelses opinion of what road I shold travel for my life! ~Truth Virtue

..wow!!!! DID I WRITE THIS!!!, This just sums up the minds photographs of my childhood as a (COGIC)penecostal pastors son! Reading this was so real for me! Some will walk away from this not getting the message. This isn't about walking away from Christ it's about the tactics of organized religion. I Believe in my Own Personal relationship with GOD and it doesnt need to be monitored by any group of church goers!A Play on peoples emotions and fears is what they bank on for control of an individuals religous walk, as for me, I'm working out my own soul salvation with the one that matters the most Christ the Lord!!!..

Whether or not you are saved and have the Holy Spirit or not, is proven through whether or not the life of Christ and His character is reflected in your life, not through lip-service and fleshly demonstrations. Because, the Holy Spirit is basically the personality of God. You cannot prove you have Christ in you any other way than to live like Christ.  Gifts and callings come WITHOUT repentance.  The goal is to attain perfection. Christ IN us.  I Corinthians 12:4 through chapter 15 talks about the diversity of the gifts, the importance of all gifts,  how you are to exercise the gifts with love, the superiority of prophecy, and the gift of tongues. Read it. It will help you understand that the Holy Spirit is so much more...

Churches have rules for a reason, but some do get abusive with them. All you need to do is see what the bible says about everything. If you live by the word, you will have no issues with your church as long as your church preaches the word, and you will have no fear about where your Future Home will be if you live by the word. Dont wait for your church to spoonfeed the word to you. Get in it during the week.  The church is supposed to be a loving family. Not fighting and bickering like children. Pray that we all grow up as adults in the Spirit and put away childish things. You will have to spend eternity with your Church family, so its best to find a Church that preaches the Word, not a church that preaches what you want it to preach so that you can continue in whatever lifestyle you are living so you wont be inconvenienced. You may not want to submit to your church, but you must submit to the word.

Using scare tactics is not effective. Just put the true word out there, and the ones who are predestinated will be attracted to it. you dont have to hog-tie and drag anyone into Church. Either they will or they wont.
