Baltimore Magazine had a short but sweet write-up of Carnivore in the August 2009 Best Of issue. Here's what they had to say (us not actually being a quartet has been a reviewer favorite so far):
Quartet Offensive Carnivore (self-released)
Creating muscular jazz that sounds like a John Zorn/Vernon Reid hybrid, Quartet Offensive is, according to the CD credits, actually a five-piece. It's worth noting, because--with bass clarinet, guitar, and electronics among the instrumentation--this band of local standouts (including John Dierker and Adam Hopkins) creates a melodic ruckus that defies expectations generated by its "jazz" label. At times it owes more of a debt to rock--and punk rock at that!--which gives these songs a propulsive edge that's more mosh than posh.
