Last night we hit the Star Bar for beer and bands (Everest, Dirty Sweet), along with some active trying not to look too hard at at the one/only Neil Young (in town in support of his film,
CSNY Déjà Vu), who was rocking the free world in a booth alongside the bar. Ladies/gentlemen: Neil Young!
When we woke up this morning, Karrie scrambled us all up some vegetable-enhanced eggs -- perfect for beer-addled tummies. And then we had a few hours free. So I finally took the opportunity for a leisurely amble down Main Street, making sure to stop in at the
New Frontier on Main to take a closer look at the amazing multimedia magics that I'd previously only
read about.
After stopping at the cafe for the best latte I've had all trip, I strolled around and got some significant peering in -- I was super impressed by all the work I saw, but Daniel Rozin's "mirrors," one made out of wood and the other out of a digital sheet of "snow," were just amazing. Both pieces track your movement in real time and alter their makeup based on your shifting outline, which is unexpectedly mesmerizing. The wooden mirror was especially satisfying because, as the individual little wooden parts moved to capture your movement, it made a comforting little "snick-snick-snick"ery sound; Bob had described the sound to me the night before, so I arrived with ear cocked for it, and it truly was lovely.
After I finished my coffee, I headed out into the flurrying snow -- which was swirling very much like a snowglobe, though I guess the comparison should really be made in reverse -- and walked the short 20 minutes to the office, snapping photos (my first all trip!) the whole way. A good morning!
Friday night? It's back to the Star Bar for the
Roman Numerals, featuring our very own Shawn, yay!
