Why are cleaning and cooking commercials still generated towards a female audience? My boyfriend buys cleaning products all the time and gets down on his hands and knees to scrub the bath tub and tile. He cooks dinner more during the week and cleans up afterwards more than me! And half the time when I call my brother to see what he's up to, he's cooking dinner or doing the laundry, vacuuming AND taking care of his four year old son! Clearly the male audience is not being represented in these ads unless they're yelling at their wife for clean socks. Men, you're not morons! Stand up and show the world that you're just as handy with a sponge as you are with a hammer! And women; men have been working 40+ hours a week for generations, and yet, commercials act as though they're exempt from the several other full-time jobs that come with having a family that you've always assumed the lead position of. It's estimated that in 2007, there were 159,000 stay at home dads (this doesn't represent countless single father households). So while Mr. Clean can be seen helping out Holly Housewife in between a commercial break during General Hospital, Dave the stay-at-home-dad has no idea that Bounty's 2-ply paper towel could help him clean up the milk spill on the kitchen floor with one sheet, as opposed to the half a roll from the "other brand". Why? Perhaps he's not a fan of the daytime soaps, Ellen or Oprah. Chances are he's flipping through ESPN, MSNBC, CURRENT TV or MTV. While I get that companies want to market their products in the right slot to reach their core buyers, they should keep in mind that the 60's and 70's are long over and it's time to broaden their horizons to reach ALL consumers. MEN DO STAY AT HOME WITH THEIR KIDS AND COOK AND CLEAN.

i remember some nick news segment from when i was like, four, about 'women everywhere throwing out their dishwashing gloves' and how this young girl was offended by it because she was being raised by her dad. that had a huge impact on my young developing feminist brain.
