Current mood: mellow Category: Life
We got to perform at one of Austin's secret venues last night, secret because you can still sit down, you can shop, AND you can bring your own booze. As I wheeled in my cooler of Miller Lites, I noticed that it was 7 pm and yet I wasn't sweating even though I was outside. It was shady, there was a breeze, and with colorful music posters everywhere, lights and wooden picnic tables, ashtrays, a dog, and a tiny black kitten, I felt a familiar feeling--the feeling of The Old Days, when things were chill, when we weren't so rushed, when time would stop on a Saturday night and you could just hang with friends. Wow. Where did that go and how did I let go of it?
I'm very glad to have it back. Playing on the open-fronted stage felt like home, and the sound was better than most bars I play in, and there was a happy, nice, and charming sound man to boot! Clay and Kelli run a great place here, and I urge everyone to go enjoy it while it's young and small and undiscovered. It is BOUND to get hipsterized, but maybe by then I can go back to the Horseshoe...ha ha.
They have live music for $5 on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Check it out, bring your own, there's potluck on Sundays, kid-friendly, and off the beaten path at 2600 Fortview Rd. next to the old Ben White east of Manchaca. They are in my top friends.
Old Austin is alive and kicking at least sometimes!
