The Electric Dustbowl happened last Saturday and was a success! A good time had by all, musicians and audiences alike, not many last-minute problems, and finances were reasonable too. Obvious in hindsight maybe, given who was playing, the ticket price etc. but these things never seem quite as clear when you're the one putting it on.
It's a funny thing organising a gig, logic goes out of the window. For example, if you're putting on performer X you may know how many people came to see them the last time they played that venue. Broadly speaking, and assuming they weren't dreadful, you might expect the same number again, perhaps a few more, perhaps a few less but do you expect them? No you don't. What you expect is that they'll all have reasons not to come, football on the telly, prior engagements, a mass outbreak of apathy, etc. etc. It's all mad but that's how it is. Well, that's how it is for me anyway. and the weird thing is, if I do it again, I shall have exactly the same doubts and alarums. Experience counts for nothing.
But anyway, that's all in some possible future. for now, it happened, people, came, it went well, end of story. Anyone who's never heard any of the performers - see last blog for details - should really check them out, there was some mightily impressive music being made in Leicester on Saturday.
