Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, October 10, 2007
Hey guys,

I'm a little late in posting this, but a couple of weeks ago, I was notified that I was the winner of the 2007 Music City Songwriting Competition.  Now I knew that this was going to be something special when the person who informed me identified himself as Phil Vassar and revealed that my song All Is Right With Me was the unanimous choice from over 2,000 entries!  (For those of you who may not know, Phil Vassar is a MAJOR artist & songwriter in country music).  In the haze of euphoria I felt during that phone call, I focused long enough to find out that I was getting an all expense paid trip to Nashville for 4 days; a recording session at Sony Tree Studios with legendary producer Mark Wright to give the song that impeccable Nashville treatment; a live performance slot on the XM Satellite Radio show: Heroes Behind the Hits, (hosted by Phil Vassar); and a single song publishing contract for All Is Right With Me.  Now that I've enjoyed the trip, I realize in retrospect that I actually took much, much more from the experience.

Nashville is a town that regards songwriting as sacred as church on Sunday and the distinction of winning this competition is truly an honor.  I am beyond flattered at the humility, kindness and talent that everyone demonstrated while I was out there last week.  From the competition organizers at the Convention & Visitor's Bureau, to the publishing company reps at The Music Group, to the monster session musicians who recorded the song with me last Friday, to Phil Vassar and everyone in-between, I was handled with such class and respect that I am positive this entire experience will stay with me for the rest of my life.   Funny enough, you can experience the majority of my time in Nashville too - it was chronicled on video, so look for some pretty cool clips here soon.

Also, please take a second and listen to the Nashville version of All Is Right With Me and let me know what you think.  Will it get picked up by a group like Rascal Flatts soon?  Only time will tell...

Thanks & be well,

Alex

Hey Alex,

Sounds like you had a great time! Will check out the new version of “All Is Right With Me”. The version you already have is great, so it should be interesting to hear what Mark Wright has done with it.

To me, this was not just another songwriting contest. With people like Phil Vassar, Mark Wright, Cliff Audretch and Barbara Orbison listening, I agree with you that it’s an honor to have your song chosen. These are people who really know what they’re listening to.

You have a great attitude, and the appreciation and the respect you’ve shown for this opportunity will undoubtedly help you to find success in the future. Great job. Keep writing!

Hey Joe,

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement man. My head is still spinning from the experience and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to shine.

By the way, I couldn't stop writing if I tried!

:)

Take it easy dude,

Alex

Hey big brother,

I just listened to the new version of your song, and I love it.It puts a different twist on it but it sounds great either way. I was thinking to myself, where in the world did you get your talent from because no one in the family is very musically inclined. I'm so happy for you,and I hope that I get to hear you on the radio soon! You are doing an awesome job!

Thanks my dear. You'll have to let me know what you think about the rest of the CD when it gets to you... By the way, I don't know where the musical talent comes from either - NEITHER side of my family has any musicians who have done much more than participate in chorus or a band here or there. I'm stumped!
