Hey guys,
I'm a little late in posting this, but a couple of weeks ago, I was notified that I was the winner of the 2007 Music City Songwriting Competition. Now I knew that this was going to be something special when the person who informed me identified himself as Phil Vassar and revealed that my song All Is Right With Me was the unanimous choice from over 2,000 entries! (For those of you who may not know, Phil Vassar is a MAJOR artist & songwriter in country music). In the haze of euphoria I felt during that phone call, I focused long enough to find out that I was getting an all expense paid trip to Nashville for 4 days; a recording session at Sony Tree Studios with legendary producer Mark Wright to give the song that impeccable Nashville treatment; a live performance slot on the XM Satellite Radio show: Heroes Behind the Hits, (hosted by Phil Vassar); and a single song publishing contract for All Is Right With Me. Now that I've enjoyed the trip, I realize in retrospect that I actually took much, much more from the experience.
Nashville is a town that regards songwriting as sacred as church on Sunday and the distinction of winning this competition is truly an honor. I am beyond flattered at the humility, kindness and talent that everyone demonstrated while I was out there last week. From the competition organizers at the Convention & Visitor's Bureau, to the publishing company reps at The Music Group, to the monster session musicians who recorded the song with me last Friday, to Phil Vassar and everyone in-between, I was handled with such class and respect that I am positive this entire experience will stay with me for the rest of my life. Funny enough, you can experience the majority of my time in Nashville too - it was chronicled on video, so look for some pretty cool clips here soon.
Also, please take a second and listen to the Nashville version of All Is Right With Me and let me know what you think. Will it get picked up by a group like Rascal Flatts soon? Only time will tell...
Thanks & be well,
Alex
