INSURGENT KID - Paranoia CD
(Cage Match Federation)

To be honest I had already decided that this really wasn't anything for me even before I had heard it. I just had the feeling that this was another one of those Umeå retro bands in the vein of Regulations as such - but even with that hanging over this CD Insurgent Kid managed to find their way to my heart. Sure, it's retro - but it's more hardcore in the vein of D.S.-13 and E.T.A., or the bands those two were influenced by. Especially present is the fact that these guys get their blood pumping when there's a Circle Jerks tune playing. Minor Threat is probably not spat upon either. It's rapid played guitars, snotty vocals, alert drumming, and really good and memorable song structures. This is actually how I would have wanted E.T.A. to sound to really get into them as much as the rest of the world did. Lyrically they're going down the same path as their predecessors writing about being young, bored, and pissed, skating, big brother not really on par with the rest of society. I like this CD a lot and it feels really good to admit that I was completely barking up the wrong tree with my presumptions about Insurgent Kid. [Krogh, June]

INSURGENT KID - paranoia CD
Who packed this?! There was so damned much Scotch tape that I hardly could open the package! When I finally could open it and had heared it I thought it was a pretty good CD, so I wanted to make it to MP3's so that I can listen to it in my MP3 player, but that was impossible as somebody have copy protected the CD! How punk is that? And just if that wasen't enough, the whole CD case smells like somebody have puked in it.

Ok, now let's be serious here and talk about the music and the band instead.. They're from Umeå punk city in northern Sweden and have been around for a year, and the band consist of members from D.S.-13, AMBULANCE, ECLIPSE, Dick Cheney and SEPARATION. The music is old school U.S. hardcore like MINOR THREAT, DEAD KENNEDYS and BLACK FLAG. The lyrics deal with social criticism and seem to be really good. "Paranoia" is their debut album, which consist of 15 songs in 24 minutes, and it's actually a pretty good album according to me. So if you're sold on old school hardcore you will probebly love this stuff.
