Postmordom Production
.. ..
Post. So! When you
finish production on a movie, you feel good, there’s a wrap party, things were
accomplished. Then post sinks in. You find out that you completed nothing. Shooting is the fun part. It’s an energetic
charge. A spark. A performance on all fronts. Post is exacting, refining. All the little things we let fly (or
basically everything in this case) needs to be finished in post. Why are you supposed to do a short (or anything)
before you dive right into a feature? Because the whole post process is so
overwhelming. Man just everything. We could just throw it all together and put
out a product, but that sounds like it would suck. It’s still going to have cracks and
flaws. You get used to that, watch other
movies, they all have their cracks and flaws.
Try to go with them, or throw them out, there’s too much to use
anyway. We have a few extra little
hurdles to hurdle. Like, there isn’t much money at all for post. That was the plan. Interesting plan. Points and things were supposed to go
out. Economy goes to shit(Fuck the
economy, make your own economy of awesome with a currency of getting shit
done. ), this is Hollywood, everyone’s
drained from production. So it just
sat. For a while. Waited in dormancy,
percolating. Solution to the hurdles-
interns. Make it into a learning
experience. The next generation of
artists consortium and the Daze universe.
Great collection of people. I was
gonna make them wait on the doorstep with no food, water, or encouragement for
3 days, but we had fools dropping like flies out there. We’ve had to weed a few out, a few more are
on the way. Some future superstars in
here from what I see. It reminds me that this movie is a lot more than just
something for people to enjoy. And if we
can actually get people to enjoy this movie and make a little bit of cash plus
we all got this experience, then that’s something. The whole thing was a learning experience,
why not make post a learning experience.
Get in there. Mash it up. Get 2.5d on some motherfuckers, time remap,
look for wave forms, get that tight junk mask, and don’t forget to check the
color curves.
The thing is, there’s still more to shoot, there’s still
more to do. It’s there. The trick lately is to not see it as this big
huge task. But an amazing learning
experience. I want it to be done so bad,
but it doesn’t work that way. Want is
bullshit sometimes. Desire, desire is
slow. Done. Accomplished.
Much more sexy. Development,
being better than your last move. Owning
up to your responsibilities and the knowledge that any point you could be doing
your best and why the fuck not. It’s
like, I met the coolest chick fucking ever and we had a blast for a couple of
months and then we had to figure some shit out, take a little time, but right
now we’re trying to make it work as an actual couple. And yes, I really need to get laid when I
start comparing everything to a girl.
The whole process is for sure sobering. I don’t even want to look back at the things
I’ve been writing already about this whole experience. Lately, I’ve look at some of things I’ve been
writing in general (more on that) and I’m kinda of a hyperbolic mess of
thinking everything is great or describing them in (hold on megatron and
opitimus prime are about to fight…ok, I know that I’m not supposed to enjoy
transformers but two fucking giant fucking robots fighting in the middle of downtown
los angeles, well that’s just what’s for dinner). So, I don’t really feel like going back and
look at it and cringing, maybe I will eventually. Or just leave it out there to be there. Great.
I’m pretty sure I said a lot boastful things. I know I felt them at the time. Sobering up makes me re-evaluated them. The movie is for sure something. Do I feel worse about now than I did then?
No. I think as things go I’m only going
to feel better about the movie, because it actually does look better and better
the more we work on. The non greenscreen
stuff looks really interesting, I just hope it edits well together. Well, it will, we’ll make sure, why not
right. We’ll definitely put in the effort.
The green screen stuff, there’s a lot of it, and I would love to see it
composed well and I know we’ll get there.
Again, editing it up nice would be cool.
I do worry about it being limited because well it is. It’s limited only because it’s limited ya
know. Can it break free of its own limitations
and stand apart? We’ll find out
right? It will no doubt, one hundred
percent sure, have its fucking moments.
That I know. That I’m running
into and am enjoying. Those moments that
I forgot were there. Or the ones that
are better than I remember. At least
that how I feel about them now. Lets see
when its actually done and ready.
.. ..
Writing stuff – Actually have knocked out a few pieces for
daze vol 1. Not too much. Got a few storylines. Some actual samples. Nothing I’d put out there. The great sci fi trilogy actually has half a
first draft for the first movie. Joon
kim aka Joonbug is supposed to put some work into it. We’ll see.
Put in a first draft for Ex’s which is about Ex’s. Probably the first in a series of death of
romantic comedies. The love doctor and
hooking up have a few pages and some outlines.
I put a little work into my science and religion twin pieces. Put together a pilot script about a concept
from mikal sky, then we decided to start it out completely differently so it
has to be redone. Finally, the thing about the thing, ya know, the next
thing. Visions. Visions has had some revsions and reworking
on it. It’s gonna do some things. At
first it was just a horror suspense script that I put together for whatever. Now it looks like its gonna be the next project
(if they let me do another one) and I’m super excited about it. Scary, bad, unhappy stuff. Is’ good though. Right now, it’s a little too much like, “what
if jeff did a horror movie,” I want to get a little closer to “so, this is what
it’s like when jeff does a horror movie.”
Probably write a few things first, then get back to it with a hyper
exacting once over.

In the Daze world. Me
and wild Mikal Sky have our new mobile makeup trailer, check it out www.skyboxmakeup.com, and the empire
begins (it’s gonna be on E! next month). Our buddy Gary has been on celebrity
rehab as most of you know. I don’t know
about this whole, I’ve actually worked with Gary and I have to tell you, if
Gary Busey is crazy, I don’t want to be sane.
He just personifies the “who gives a shit attitude.” Really, if we weren’t all so caught up in our
societal norms, this man would be the leader of the new revolution. Alas.
Jackson, Ben, Uncle Larry, Nshan are part of 100 monkeys (along with ben
#2 and Jrad) a rock, folk, blues band that’s playing regularly at 24k lounge in
Hollywood (owned by our very own miller and nshan) on Tuesday nights. They recently cut their first ep at our new
artists consortium recording studio. Krafty
Kristin, on her way to do the like 100th anniversary (maybe 200) of trapeze work
in Europe for a whole year. Another
installment of Police Academy is on the way.
Kaiser is chinchilla and making sure Los Angeles gets straightened out. Music videos are on the way. Chop Vulin played Jason Strathem’s body
double in cranked 2 (oh corey, why do you have to so much crack?). And finally, AJ is out of his head, medical
diagnoses.
