I've put off doing anything even remotely Christmasy until today. After lunch with the kiddo and dil, we went to Build A Bear and built a dog for the grandbaby. He's the cutest little fuzzy brown and white puppy, and when you squeeze his left hand, you get a recording of our son telling the baby Merry Christmas.

I'm allergic to malls and crowds (seriously, they make me itch), but I had fun with Ralph. He's wearing desert camies and desert boots, and has a cute little black beret. (The kiddo says he's gonna find him a maroon one, since that's what Airborne wears.) DIL named him after the piano-playing dog on the Muppets.

We also picked up an addition to the baby's train set.We bought his first engine for his birthday, and he's getting an Army engine for Christmas. Both his dad and his favorite grandma (don't tell the other grandmother!) love train sets and building towns and making trees, so by the time he's old enough to get his hands in some plaster of Paris, he'll have a complete train that's liable to cost as much as my first car. I've already told his parents that they have to consider the train when they buy a house, since a good set-up requires a whole room of its own.

And that's it for my Christmas shopping. Sister J bought the group gift for Mom, so all I have to do is write a check to her, then it's money for everyone else.

My kind of gift-giving.

I'm not crazy about malls either. I used to be. Back when I was young...but now I could care less about going. And I think it's not fair that all you have to do is buy one gift and the rest are money. What a sucker way out.
My kids got awesome presents this year. They both got laptops. I ordered them a month ago from DELL (they had a special) and just last Friday decided to pull them out of the box to wrap. Guess what? One is broke. I couldn't believe it! So I called DELL and they are sending a new one and although they promised it would be here by tomorrow, it doesn't look good on the tracking of it. I was so mad. GRRRSSS...then our dog found and ate the candy that I had bought for the kids stockings from santa AND today she ate the present my son bought for me. It was a candle scented like cookies. GRRRSSSS, again.
I'm gonna kill the dog and blow up DELL.

But see, little bit? Money doesn't have to get shipped, and the people in my family are tight-fisted enough that the pupper wouldn't stand a chance at even getting a sniff of it.

And I bought twopresents -- the train engine.

Wow, I'm impressed by your gift-buying. Will you adopt me? I can be the eccentric granny who lets the kids do everything you don't.

Keep attempting that smile. It'll come for real sooner or later.

Guess what-- the laptop STILL isn't here. I think my daughter may blow up DELL for me. Or steal Kyle's. *grins*
And the over-the-top gift buying is my hubbys fault. Christmas was always a big deal at his house, so he has continued the tradition. I wouldn't mind scaling back, but he won't hear of it.

As long as you've got the kids at home and you're staying out of the poor house, might as well make a big deal of it. We were a lot more Christmas-friendly when Brandon was a kid. He and I did all the decorating, both inside and out, and we always had farolitos lining our sidewalk and driveway that we lit together every evening. We went shopping and kept secrets and spent way too much.

Just think of all the great memories you're giving them.

Hope daughter's computer comes soon!!!
