AIKEN COUNTY, Sc--"I drove by it without knowing which is the worst thing i think. Seeing an accident and not realizing its your own child, its horrifying, " said Kim Davies, Brenden's mother.
Horrifying that Kim Davies' son Brenden Wilson was in a Jeep Cherokee when it crashed into a tree on Jennifer Drive Saturday morning. But the hardest part for Kim is trying to figure out why Aiken Public Safety chased her son for so long.
"They shouldn't keep chasing them. The person is running from them, they're scared of them. It's murder. They ran him into a tree. They took my son, " said Kim.
But Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno says his officer was doing his job..
"Officers have to make those decisions to protect the motoring public that's innocent out there from the people who drive reckless or drive under the influence, " Lt. David Turno.
The car was snapped into two pieces on impact. The back now facing the front of the car after being wrapped around a tree. Lt. Turno says this could've all been avoided.
"This offender, Mr. Wilson, simply could've stopped and none of this would've happened. He may have spent the night in jail but he wouldn't be where he is today. Our sympathy goes out to him, " said Lt. Turno.
Something both law enforcement and Brenden's mother can agree on.
"I just think he got scared that the was going to jail. I wish he was in jail right now, " said Kim.
But instead, his family must now plan his funeral.
