"Spend the rest of the evening lying on the sofa and watching Fox 'News', whose reports about the American election claim to be "fair and balanced" but which sometimes seem about as objective as a biography of Lee Harvey Oswald would be if written by the ghost of John F Kennedy." - Joseph O'Connor

Spade = Spade = lolz

And, yeah: I get the irony of posting this on a NewsCorp owned website.

/going to bed.

k, I'm really going crash now. Fox viewers / supporters / victims are free to defend that joke of a news outlet in the comments. I'd love to hear the awesome things you've learned from Fox about that elitist Muslim, cracker hating, Kenyan born, Socialist pig who pals around with Terrorists - yet does not bother keeping tabs on his Aunt or brother.

I can't wait to see what OMFG BS bomb Fox drops on Monday night about Obama. It'll have to be something huge that will take a day or so to be disproved...

P.S. I'm voting (throwing it away) for Nader. Having to take up for Obama on ridiculous Fox news BS is aggravating at best.

Well sure someone has to be hard on Obama you gotta admit that MSNBC and CNN are not much better with being pro-Obama . I could have sworn I saw Kieth O and Rachel Maddow worshiping Obama's last bowel movement. Also we must trust Fox more because the women are hot! Are you telling me that you don't trust what hot women tell you !!

"The Rachel Maddow Show is a news and opinion television program"
"Countdown with Keith Olbermann is an hour-long weeknight news commentary program"

Yeah, they blow Obama every chance they get. Those shows are not pitched as "regular news" / non-biased coverage though.

Fox & Friends: "The program starts at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time with the latest Fox News Live headlines and analyzes the news of the morning. It continues with many different segments including interviews, updates of news stories with correspondents at any number of bureaus, analysis from the hosts, and many different regular morning show segments. Fox & Friends evolved from Fox X-press, FNC's original morning-news program."

^^^ That show is insane and very loose with facts. As are most of the other Fox shows.

LoLo everyone knows that CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC are in the bag for Obama. Look no one is saying that Fox is not biased but I wouldn't go as far as saying its nearly as bad as MSNBC. If I remember right Olbermann was removed from anchoring non-opinion based shows because he couldn't keep his opionions to himself when he was supposed to be just reporting the news. Whatever he does on his three ring circus show countdown is fine but he has to keep it to that show. The media has failed us in not asking questions of both sides in this whole thing. Instead we've been distracted from issues by focusing on fluff stories.

boy have I missed hearing from you!!! I haven't got a blog post for what seems like forever.
And you think you have it bad??
My 78 yr old roommate listens to Rush AND Fox news EVERYDAY at like 100 decibels ~ oops, I almost typed decimels! Yep, just got home from drinking! Yay for me!

ANYWAY, the only thing I have learned from Fox news is how NOT balanced they are, especially when talking about how balanced they think they are!

Don't blame me if I'm not making sense . . . it's a side effect of second hand Fox news exposure! More damaging than second hand smoke . . .

I wonder what they would hate if everything went their way . . .

Happy anyway - and yea, I'm not voting for either of them . . . don't consider it a throw away! There was enough of us to put a scare into them back in Ross Perot day . . .

drama drama drama

he said she said b.s.

one is a liar. the other is a stranger.

anything is better than the current path we are on- whether its 10 degrees of 180 degrees off the current path this country is - we are going to be better off.

i am still undecided with two days left to go. i have thought about writing in paul or nader.

All this garbage almost makes me want to do the responsible thing and exercise my right to not vote. Politics are so horrible these days. If the original Philadelphia Congress were here they'd probably lock all the congressmen in the capitol building and watch it blaze. We need term limits, we need more scrutiny on them, and for the lov of all things holy, how much sense does it make that they get to decide how much of a pay increase they're gonna take out of tax money every year. How does tha even make sense? Anyway, all politicians lie, all of them steal, all of them have their own agenda, it comes down to the lesser of the most evils.

The polls opened here last week and lots of people have already voted, so pretty much, there isn't anything Fox news or anyone else that's going to change the vote in THIS state.

Fox news leans right, CNN leans left, every media outlet can be pegged as supporting one candidate or another...none of the news reported these days is ever "fair and balanced" anyway. And if people think this is dirty politics, this is nothing. Go read up on Tammany Hall and the politicians in NYC back in the middle to late 1800s. Gangs would actually take over the polling sites to strongarm people violently into voting for someone. They would vote early and vote often. ^_^ We have it so much better. That is, if the machines actually work this time. And remember kiddies...it's not the popular vote anyway, it's the electoral college.

I think I'm going to try and vote tomorrow so I can avoid the circus on Tuesday.

Basically, from what I've been able to gather: OUR vote for the Prez. doesn't mean jack. The senators and all the other upper-mucky-mucks votes are the only ones that count. We just *try* to sway our politicians' vote, and even at that, the senator doesn't *have* to vote with whom his state says, s/he could always vote for "the candidate who supports the best interests of the state". Usually, tho the politician will vote for the majority.
In short: We're in for a rough ride with no lube.

Great hearing from you again LoLo.

p.s. I wrote in my parakeet for President: Mischief in 09!

You must not watch much fox news, I personally think they should be all conservative and that would be the balance as all the other ones are nothing but liberal. But no fox has to have as many idiots pumping up obama as the other stations. I think you need to watch more of it and you will see that it isn't as conservative as you think. They do just as much pandering.

As for talk radio, we listen to that because it is conservative talk radio. We don't expect to hear liberal junk. There are plenty of liberal talk radio to listen to.

fox news should really be called gop news. they aren't remotely fair and balanced. but the worse thing fox news has done is to sensationalize--the jerry springerization of--news with lots of inflammatory sound bytes, you know, 15-sec "in-depth discussions" with 2 people--1 from the left, 1 from the right--screaming at each other. of course, this was wildly successful--which says something about the american public--and the other networks copied because it's more about money--again says something about the american mindset--than about the news.

as far as the recent take over of the gop by the neo-cons--at least at the national level--they are not conservative, so a vote for them is not a conservative vote as many gop supporters think and claim. they have been fooled and lied to. actions always speak louder than words, especially in politics. a true conservative is fiscally responsible and a non interferer in a persons life at home and abroad. neo-cons are the opposite; they completely interfere all people's live around the globe and they spend huge amounts of money--more % increase than any democrat since wwii--and then cut taxes so they cannot pay for them. the gop needs to get rid of these unamericans and get back to their roots and be real patriots.

What we could all use is a lot less government, and neither of the candidates are likely to do that, but I can't imagine voting for someone who thinks our Constitution is "fundamentally flawed".

In 1916, outspoken advocate for liberty, William
J. H. Boetcker, published a pamphlet entitled The Ten
Cannots .
"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak
by weakening the strong. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the
rich. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You
cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and
independence. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot
lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of
trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot establish security on
borrowed money. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they
will not do for themselves."

It IS frustrating. That's why I just don't watch Fox. Sure, I am a CNN buff, but basically, I try to remember that it's PEOPLE reporting the news. They can claim to be "objective," but hey--I'm a journalist and I know that even when I try to be transparent and neutral, the undertones will always be there, however subtle.

Anyhow. Good blog. Can't wait for Wednesday!

Lmao! no kudos for a stupid blog. i'm a democrat & i am tired of this b/s politics. there was a study released about the 3 major cable news channels regarding the fairness they all showed. nbc was like 73% neg about mccain & 14% neg about obama. fox was 40% neg for mccain & 40% neg about obama. lolo & any one else who is saying that fox news isn't fair & balanced can't factually back up this claim. try & name any day & any time when they weren't fair & balanced. there are plenty of times when i am disgusted w/what fox reports as much as cnn & msnbc. i'm one w/myself, all i need is information presented to me & i can make up my mind on how i feel about issues. i'm just ready to get past this soap-opera election & the division it stirs. go to puma08.com

McCain = Someone who served his country (automatic character points)
Obama = Someone who served his local community(some but less character points)

McCain = Moderate view points and the ability to keep one party from gaining too much power. Its always bad when either the Republicans or the Democrats control all of the government.
Obama = Diet Socialism not really full fledge socialism but has that same bitter taste of government contoling too much of your life. Not saying Obama is going to start putting up OBEY ME posters or anything but will throw us into a depression with his economic policy and create too many government agencies and programs for every thing you could think ok.

Nobody would stop me from voting. no way, no how.
Btw, folks, don't forget that you don't have to cling to either extreme
There are other candidates and write in's available to choose from.
About having a remote and not having to listen - let me reiterate - I would have never watched/listened by choice. I had no opinion on Fox news until exposed daily by my roommate.
The constant negativity that bombards me every time I leave my room and enter the main part of the house is a real bummer . . . that's if you can even understand what is really going on since they are all usually talking over each other.
Then there's the almighty Rush Limbaugh . . . groan . . . gee. wonder why he doesn't talk about drug addiction anymore . . . (btw, that's a rhetorical question).
Well, here's to the new order, whoever it may be. I only hope that whoever ends up therewill try to do the best he can. What else can I do? Pray I guess . . .

ELLO LUV. ITS BEEN AWHILE. IVE BEEN CHECKIN ON MY PROFILE ONLY ONCE A MONTH THIS YEAR. I NOTICED THAT YOU HADNT POSTED FOR 7 MONTHS, UNTIL THIS ONE, AND MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS "WHAT DID HE DO TO GET LOCKED UP FOR THAT LONG?"

HOWEVER, I MUSTVE SEEN THE WORD FOX, MY FINAL GUESS WAS "MAYBE HE HIT THE OLE CAMPAIGN TRAIL?" AND IS A WEARY TRAVELER FINALLY RETURNING HOME NOW. HA HA!

ADMITTEDLY, I WAS COMFORTED TO SEE THAT I KNOW OF SOMEONE OTHER THAN MYSELF WHO IS COMMITTED TO VOTING AND WAS STILL DRAWING A BLANK BETWEEN THE TWO CANDIDATES WE HAD NARROWED IT DOWN TO. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD TIME IVE VOTED FOR A PRESIDENT, SOMEHOW I THOUGHT I WOULD IMPROVE AT THIS SKILL OVER THE YEARS :-/ I WAS MOST PERPLEXED THE FINAL DAY, AND ALMOST DIDNT GO.

ANYWHO, MY MONEY SAYS YOU DIDNT END UP GOING WITH NADER (DO TELL!). I WASNT CONFIDENT THAT THE DEM OR THE REP CANDIDATE WOULD SURVIVE THE 4 YEAR TERM, SO I DECIDED TO VOTE FOR MY PREFERED VICE PRESIDENT. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT ENTRUSTING ONE OF THEM WITH ONLY ONE ISSUE - THE ECONOMY PROBLEM. IN SPITE OF BEING A BUDDING REP, WHITE, HETEROSEXUAL, GUN-WIELDING, FEMINIST, ASPIRING SOCCER MOM, "PRACTICALLY CHRISTIAN", DONT-LET-ANYONE-ELSE-COME-NORTH-OF-THE-BORDER, ARIZONIAN WOMAN, I DIDNT HAVE TO THINK TWICE - NOT EVEN TWICE - ABOUT PUTTING OUR COUNTRY'S FINANCIAL WELFARE IN THE HANDS OF ANY DEM MALE READY TO TAKE IT ON. TO EACH THEIR OWN ? YAH, PEOPLE DIED AND SURVIVED THE UNTHINKABLE SO THAT WE CAN LIVE THAT :-) HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS.

you get a lot of blog comments. How are you feeling about the elections now? I voted for Nader too. In fact, I wore a shirt with a jacket over it ,the front said I voted (homemade style) and when I went to vote I took it off and it said, right now I am NOT voting for Obama. Nader for president. Someone actually said I was a racist. I thought it was kind of brave, since I live in hippie hell that is 40 % african american and 50% earth loving, croc wearing liberals and 10% me! Yeah, my awesomeness takes up that much space...oh wait, maybe I am just fat.... or maybe its 1 % me (and that other guy who voted Nader) and 9% gun toting, eye rolling, war mongering right wingers. I forget.....At any rate, I told the lady who called me racist and let me quote this "nuh-uh, I voted for an old guy AND a mexican" to which the reply was quote "they don't let mexicans run for president, they aint citizens"....um. yeah. Being a Canadian and now living here, it amazes me not only the difference between the mainstream media but how the news is perceived generally in the USA> If you watch the local Canadian new or national news and then switch to the British news you'll get basically the same gest of the story. Turn to CNN and you'll wonder if you're still on the same page...then switch to FOX and you're blown right out of the water. It's my opinion that the US media is no better than what was communist Russia where you were spoon fed exactly what they wanted you to hear which was usually anything but the truth. As for fair and balanced, I'm sure it is if the scales are set the same way elections are. <br />Living here now, I often wonder if what I'm seeing is anything close to the truth...just my 2 cents
