I hadn't realised it had been so long since the last time I posted an update on this...time to do some catching up...

2001

SANDKING + Minus – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 3/1/01

LAPTOP + Madnomad – The Louisiana, Bristol 25/1/01

MARBLE VALLEY + Moodydood – The Louisiana, Bristol 1/2/01

GRANDADDY + Lowgold – Bristol University Anson Rooms 2/2/01

DRUGSTORE + The Bush, The Tree & Me – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 16/2/01

KARAMASOV + Pilote + Appliance – The Louisiana, Bristol 1/3/01

COSMIC ROUGH RIDERS + Phonic – The Louisiana, Bristol 2/3/01

RAY DAVIES – Colston Hall, Bristol 4/3/01 I got tickets for this gig by pure good fortune - it had long sold out, but I asked on the off-chance while buying tickets for something else, only to be told a pair of tickets had been returned earlier that day! I had no idea what to expect - whether he would still be any good, if he'd play any songs I knew...the answer was a resounding 'yes' - Mr. Davies was outstanding...

MIKA BOMB + Kenisia – Moles Club, Bath 8/3/01

ASTRID + Buffseeds – The Louisiana, Bristol 9/3/01

THE MIGHTY STARS + Sammo Hung – Bristol Comedy Pub 22/3/01

CLEARLAKE + Phonic – The Louisiana, Bristol 23/3/01

SNOW PATROL – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 3/4/01

THE AISLERS SET + The White Papers + Comet Gain – Moles Club, Bath 5/4/01

ELECTRELANE + Chikinki – The Louisiana, Bristol 13/4/01

FEEDER + My Vitriol + Nuclear Fish – Colston Hall, Bristol 17/4/01

THE MIGHTY STARS + Cubare + El Goodo – The Louisiana, Bristol 18/4/01

ASH + Snow Patrol – Bristol University Anson Rooms 27/4/01

CINERAMA + Tahiti 80 – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 29/4/01

ARAB STRAP + Bright Eyes – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 7/5/01 This was one of those all-too-rare gigs when a support band I had never previously heard completely blew me away.  I have no recollection of what Arab Strap were like as, dramatic though it sounds, I think I was almost in a state of shock at just how bloody good Bright Eyes were and the rest of the evening just passed me by.  As far as I know, this remains the only time Bright Eyes have played Bristol.

ELBOW + Mull Historical Society – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 8/5/01

EIGHTH DAY + Mincer – The Louisiana, Bristol 10/5/01

THE DONNAS + Sahara Hotnights – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 22/5/01

PRESTON SCHOOL OF INDUSTRY + Creeper Lagoon – The Louisiana, Bristol 9/6/01

MADNOMAD + Saloon + Stars On The Water – Moles Club, Bath 28/6/01

THE ICARUS LINE + Hell Is For Heroes – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 2/7/01

LAMBCHOP + Zero 7 – Colston Hall, Bristol 5/7/01 I had high hopes for this gig as I'd heard good things about Lambchop and the couple of songs I'd heard were good, so thought I'd take a punt on them as they probably wouldn't play over here very often.  I left after only a few songs as they were awful - a huge disappointment.  I did buy an album of theirs several years down the line, but I remember this gig for all the wrong reasons...

HALO + Submatrix + Hamyak – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 6/7/01

RADIOHEAD + Beck + Supergrass + Sigur Ros + Humphrey Lyttleton + Hester Thrale + The Rock Of Travolta – South Park, Oxford 7/7/01 Virtually a one-day festival with a great line-up, in a park in Oxford - what could go wrong? The gig itself was good, but sadly the lasting memory I have of the day was getting completely and utterly drenched.  Good ol' English summers.

BRISTOL COMMUNITY FESTIVAL 2001: Redefine + Countermine + Fuzz Light Years + Phonic + Chikinki + Halo + It's Jo & Danny + Madnomad + Def, Dumb & Blondie – Hengrove Park, Bristol 14-15/7/01 Ah, foot-and-mouth.  With hindsight, the decision to go ahead with the festival at Hengrove Park because foot-and-mouth restrictions meant the usual Ashton Court site was out of bounds, rather than calling it off entirely, was probably the beginning of the end for the festival.  Not that the organisers were to blame - fair play to them for soldiering on under the circumstances - but all the people who usually went to Ashton Court but couldn't be bothered to make the journey to Hengrove should probably feel a little bit guilty.  The reduced turnout undoubtably had a huge effect on funds which they never really recovered from.

THE LOVES + Kardomah + Tim Atack – The Louisiana, Bristol 24/7/01

HAMYAK + Ploomidge – The Louisiana, Bristol 26/7/01

TOM HINGLEY – The Arc Bar, Bristol 8/8/01

THE ROCK OF TRAVOLTA + Moonkat – Moles Club, Bath 9/8/01

CHIKINKI + Big Joan – Moles Club, Bath 16/8/01

READING FESTIVAL 2001: The Strokes + Eels + Iggy Pop + P J Harvey + Goldrush + The Zephyrs + Gorky's Zygotic Mynci + The Folk Implosion + Teenage Fanclub + Frank Black + Manic Street Preachers + Mower + Hopewell + Hefner + Stephen Malkmus – Richfield Avenue, Reading 24-26/8/01

HALO – The Louisiana, Bristol 3/9/01

THE COOPER TEMPLE CLAUSE + Halo – The Louisiana, Bristol 15/9/01

EL GOODO + Cubare – The Louisiana, Bristol 25/9/01

SUPER FURRY ANIMALS + Killa Kela + El Goodo – Colston Hall, Bristol 28/9/01

COSMIC ROUGH RIDERS + The Electric Soft Parade + The 45s – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 1/10/01

THE MUSIC + Superstring – The Louisiana, Bristol 2/10/01

SPIRITUALIZED – Colston Hall, Bristol 8/10/01

POLLEN + Cléan – The Louisiana, Bristol 9/10/01

THE BETA BAND Bristol University Anson Rooms 10/10/01

GORKY'S ZYGOTIC MYNCI + Zabrinski – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 11/10/01

AIRBORN + Kin + Swan – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 16/10/01

THE DIVINE COMEDY + Ed Harcourt – Bristol University Anson Rooms 25/10/01

AIR + Sebastien Tellier – Colston Hall, Bristol 26/10/01 Yes, the same Sebastien Tellier who represented France in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.  It's probably extremely unlikely anyone else I've seen live will achieve this honour.

GENE – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 31/10/01

SPARKLEHORSE + Gemma Hayes – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 1/11/01

MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY + Buffseeds – The Louisiana, Bristol 3/11/01

THE ELECTRIC SOFT PARADE + Kid Galahad – The Louisiana, Bristol 6/11/01

EMBRACE + The Cooper Temple Clause – The Rock, Bristol 11/11/01 This was the only gig I went to in the venue now known as the Academy before the official change of name and 'relaunch' a few days later.

AMERICAN HI-FI + Hell Is For Heroes – The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol 14/11/01

THE ROCK OF TRAVOLTA + Meanwhile, Back In Communist Russia + Eeebleee – Moles Club, Bath 15/11/01

OCEAN COLOUR SCENE + Halo – Bristol Academy 18/11/01

THE WHITE STRIPES + The Von Bondies – Bristol University Anson Rooms 20/11/01

Ha ha! Yeah, I've also finally bought a ticket for 19th September - still no luck in finishing work early yet, though, so I'll probably be drinking on an empty stomach as I won't have been home...could be interesting ;o)
