Have been a bit slack at posting these, but as we're almost through yet another year I thought I'd better start catching up...!

2004

EASYWORLD + X Is Loaded - The Louisiana, Bristol 16/1/04

RAZORLIGHT + The New Rhodes + Angels Fight The City – The Louisiana, Bristol 23/1/04 (This would be worth boasting about if they hadn't become so dreadful after the first album...still they were good back, then.  Perhaps.)

HIM + Viking Skull – Bristol Academy 28/1/04

ALFIE + Babel – Bristol University AR2, 29/1/04

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE + The Cribs – The Fleece, Bristol 8/2/04

THE PARKINSONS + Figment – The Fleece, Bristol 11/2/04

KEANE + Grand Transmitter – The Louisiana, Bristol 20/2/04

THE BOXER REBELLION + Big Joan + Sammo Hung – The Louisiana, Bristol 21/2/04

KASABIAN + X Is Loaded – The Louisiana, Bristol 5/3/04

STELLASTARR* + The Killers – The Fleece, Bristol 6/3/04 (Stellastarr* are still around, but they don't seem to have had much success in the UK.  That support band have done alright for themselves, though!)

HUNDRED REASONS + Biffy Clyro + Senses Fail – Bristol Academy 9/3/04

GRAHAM COXON + Bloc Party – The Fleece, Bristol 10/3/04 (I didn't actually see Bloc Party at this gig - I was in the Seven Stars next to the Fleece having a drink, and couldn't be bothered to rush my pint to see the support who, at the time, none of us had heard of.  Doh.)

INME + X Is Loaded + Save Ourselves – The Station, Bristol 6/6/04

THE ORDINARY BOYS + Dogs Die In Hot Cars + Kaiser Chiefs – The Fleece, Bristol 8/6/04 (I wasn't a fan of DDIHC and thought they were on first, so didn't rush to get to the gig particularly early, only to find out some hotly-tipped chancers by the name of Kaiser Chiefs were in fact the first support, so I only saw about 3 songs.  It was enough to make me buy the first release of 'Oh My God', though, which I should probably stick on eBay if I run short of cash...!)

RAZORLIGHT + Whyte Seeds + Angels Fight The City – The Fleece, Bristol 9/6/04

HOLLY GOLIGHTLY + Portobella – The Louisiana, Bristol 11/6/04

THE SECRET MACHINES + Sayama – The Louisiana, Bristol 30/6/04

I think I was at that Graham Coxon gig too, and also never saw the soon-to-be-huge Bloc Party. Still not sure it was a great loss though. Also never realised the Magic Numbers supported Ed Harcourt.

Interesting that these supports have all become bigger than the headliners. Bloc Party have shifted far more records than Graham's solo work. And when was the last time Ed Hardcourt charted, compared to the Magic Numbers? And the Kaiser Chiefs did far better than the Ordinary Boys. Maybe you should spend less time in the pub when supports are on??!

I pretty much always watch support bands - expect the forgettable ones outnumber those who have 'made it', but yes, it is strange how many times the headliners at many of these gigs have failed to get anywhere compared to the other bands on the bill...!

Ahh 21/2/2004 was the gig I met you at.  It kinda stuck in my memory as I was meant to write a review for the UWE SU newspaper but I got pretty smashed and couldn't remember much.

As always, a real pleasure remembering so many of these shows.  looking forward to part 9
