I know a lot about the Marine Corps, and little about how the rest of the government works.
Trust me when I say the branches of service do not operate in the same manner, but that's another blog.
Yesterday, while researching a book. I came across the National Intelligence Council.  Now, I knew about them, but didn't delve too deep. I did this time.
These are the people who gather info and give it to the CIA, DIA, DEA, etc.... and they act on it.  Supposedly.   They have gathered info from outside non government sources, like think tanks too.   They are the ones who come up with worst case senarios and try to head them off.
Really?
Can you say WAY too many people on the payroll who could alter information before its given to the right resource?
I can.
The shortest distance between two places is a straight line... so why do we need so many splinter agencies?

Just an idea of the NIC's job... these are the people who should have given the USA info on Bin Laden before 9-11.

Oh yeah, they were hard at work when we needed them.  Sure.

The staff have backgrounds with agencies I'd never heard of before.  They've had their fingers in the Intelligence pie for a long time, but we know so little about what they actually DO.  One of them was the Daily Briefer on intell to the president I didn't calculate the years to see which president, but they're alive so its got to be at least the last 3.
Who are these people?  And what do they REALLY do?  After reading tons if info on the site, I still didn't have a clue.
And I got to say... as I read, I kept thinking, doesn't the CIA, DIA or NSA do that?
They have rooms of analysts who do nohting but comb over information.
Go read, and see why we keep paying MORE taxes for agencies that just overplap each other and don't share the information.

Your tax dollars at work, people.

Yes, you guessed it, I'm using it in a book... and it won't be pretty.

Ain't it so, sista!!! It's funny when they say that the "government" is "by the people, for the people", but which people are THEY really serving? It's amazing how everyone is "spying" on each other but no one wants to give up the goods. Then they blame each other for not sharing. Go figure!!! Can't wait for your next book!!!!

Diana~~!!!
Hi Girl!
Ya know, our own government agencies gives me PLENTY of fodder for books. Heck, I created Dragon One from stories of I'd heard over the past 25 years. The next book, I'll delve deeper into that theory there are more influences at work than we believe. Think about who works on these secret projects and can't keep their loyalty in place...

Like McGill said in Come As You Are...sometimes we're our own worst enemy.
