The other day in a grocery store, it took me a moment to realize that the name on the product, an air freshner, was in Spanish. The English was below it. In an America store with an American Made Product. I lost it. I called the store manager, asked him to explain why Spanish named products were in an English speaking country. He didn't order the products. Then who did? That rep wasn't actually IN the store. I suggest he pass along a reminder that this is America and we speak English here. I put the products back and left. Theni sent angry emails to the store headquarters and the manufacturer. I will not buy thier products if they continue to put them in American's stores with Spanish translated names. It won't make a diff to the companies, but it does to me. I'm sick to death of our society catering to the immigrant in language. My grandfather learned English when he came here in 1929 from Sicily and he was nearly 30 at the time. Don't expect the USA to learn your language. If I lived in your country, I'd sure as hell learn the language first. Like I did before moving to Okinawa. I could speak it enough to get around and get what I needed. I did the same before landing in China and several other countries. Personally, I should not have to pay for the Spanish channels on my cable TV, either, but that's another tale of irritation.
Now this one I know everyone who shaves feels.... when did razor blades get so expensive? If there a shortage of plastic and thin metal somewhere? I paid the equivelent of $2.50 per blade for my shaver. For ONE blade? When there is more metal in single nail or a lighter?! Gillette and all his pals are taking us all for a ride. Go generic. Maybe it's time to take out some stock in a few steel companies.
I promise, next time I'll blog about something more interesting...maybe when I have a few chapters of this book under my belt...
