This is my second MySpace blog in almost a year and a half, so I doubt many of you will even read this. I’ve been working steady, mostly doing t-shirt designs and commercial work but I’m looking to get back into the fine art scene soon. I’m working on a couple painting series, I hope to get them into galleries by late summer, if not sooner.

I want to move to NY this year but the idea is touch and go. I’ve got some good friends in NYC to assist me in finding a good pad. we’ll see how it goes.

For those of you who follow my commercial career, check out the Toyota Corolla Crest Generator. I rendered all the illustrations used in the banner (animals, symbols, crowns, etc.). This interactive banner can be seen all over the internet this year. While it’s not the most creative piece I’ve done, it’s fun to play with. Click on the image below to see and use the banner at the ad demonstration site:

Take care,

im debating on giving up on being an artist man. i thought i was good...hell even great at design. the only thing holding me back was finishing school...but now it just seems theres so much saturation in the job market and everyone with a laptop and photoshop is "freelancing" and serious artists cant get any work.

What do you want to achieve as an artist/designer? If you're truly passionate about being an artist (of any kind), just keep at it and fill in the financial blanks the best you can. You might have to get a full-time job doing something else until you can live off your designer earnings. You might also consider cutting down your living expenses as much as possible (live with roommates, borrow money, loans, etc), until you're making enough to upgrade your situation.

Being a designer (especially freelance) is not a practical or profitable career choice for most people because it requires a lot of work, self-motivation and a constant push towards professional excellence. Most people just want to be told what to do and get their paycheck on schedule. That's why art careers are all about passion for the work, without it, there is very little chance for success, specifically in the freelance world.

That's my broad and canned answer, if you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask them.

And good luck to you Erin. :)
