Current mood:  irritated
Actually, I'm not gay and I don't like men. I just wanted to get your attention...

However, what I want to write about involves gays. Gays and Christians, actually. Scary stuff, no?

In all seriousness, I'm very sick and tired of Christians speaking out so passionately against gays. What is up with that? I know, I know. God doesn't approve of homosexuality. This is true, and it is stated in the Bible. However, God also doesn't approve of stealing. Or lying. Or cheating. Why don't Christians have the same passion to speak out against those things? A sin is a sin and being gay is, in my mind, no worse in God's eye than telling a little ol' white lie. If God doesn't single out a particular sin more than others, why should we?

There was a gay pride rally and walk during the summer months in Old Sacramento. Hundreds and hundreds of gays and gay supporters showed up. Among the attendees was also the Otterstads and their infamous self-proclaimed "truth truck." They were, as usual, speaking out against being gay with the passion and fervor they always seem to have. Their signs and speech were all viewed as "hate speech" and, of course, does nothing to further the cause they wish to further.

My church, Capital Christian Center, also attended. What were they doing there? Well, it was a hot day and they were handing out water bottles. They were approached at one point by an attendee who, after eyeing the truth truck, asked, "If Jesus was here today, what do you think he would do?"

What might you assume the response would be? Would Jesus be screaming out that gays are going to go to Hell? Would he flash around signs with condemning words that would offend people?

The response to the question was a simple one. The person being asked thought for a brief moment then stated with confidence, "We bet Jesus would be handing out water bottles, too."

And I firmly believe that. Jesus was love. Jesus is love. I don..t see the truth truck as being very loving. Jesus acted out of love. I don..t see the Otterstads acting much like Jesus.

Christians need to remember who they should be modeling.

You're right about who we should be modeling.  I think the extra passion about homosexuality comes from people saying this particular sin is ok. People are also passionate about abortion because society also says that's ok. People don't get too passionate about murder (other than corporal punishment), stealing, adultery, etc., because society agrees with Christians on those topics and you don't see parades to support them.

Ahh, yes. True true. What a logical way to look at it. Kudos! I love kudos! Yay for KUDOS!But, I still don't agree with how some Christians go about expressing their passion...

I thought Christians were supposed to create political and spiritual agendas and enforce the old laws...

What is this love business all about?

Geesh...next you are going to tell me that Love is the most important law of all...

pfffttt

Your blog reminded me of an article I read the other day about attacks on gays. It said that a lot of politicians use the argument that gay marriage is ruining traditional marriage, but the article pointed out that heterosexuals are the ones who are ruining traditional marriage with the way they treat their spouses. Anyway, that was quite the interesting blog.

politicians should probably read the facts before making such silly claims.

heterosexuals are the ones that created the high divorce rates we have. Homosexuals dont have a chance to ruin marriage. Heterosexual people are doing it fine on their own...

I dod believe that sin is sin however I think there is something to say about lifestyles.

I seem to recall a story in the bible about Jesus storming through the temple because it had been made a "den of thieves".

The duality of Christ has always fascinated me. Being that I am not perfect however, I have no idea how I should judge the actions of others. If I embrace the Bible, I have to embrace all of the Bible, dont I? So should I be passing out water bottles and saying "Here ya go, enjoy the water you sinner!"

As always....Im torn.

This comment was made a year ago? But anyway, (just saw it!) for anyone else who reads this blog, since it's been popular for some reason lately... in response to the last comment... Jesus would be turning the tables on the people holding the signs, not the homosexuals. Jesus turned the tables over in the temple because those people knew better. Jesus is just... angry with the "Christians" who should know better and don't care, and loving to those who are simply in need of real love. Even though I made a "logical" statement above, I still passionately do not agree with the protestors of homosexuality. I think they have some deeper issues that create this kind of hate.
