Ok, so a little more info has trickled in. Here is what I know so far:
1. The votes were tampered with. Fan took votes from Fury in the Sound and Sons of Liberty, and possibly McKinney Railroad (though I'm not sure of that) and probably others, and placed those votes in our container.
The same happened with our container; some fans tried to dump our votes into other band's buckets with probably only a little success.
Next time we hope to have wooden containers made by Wood Shop, with locks on them to prevent tampering.
2. Mr. Hord decided not to attempt a recount, and took the votes at face value. Although this is not the solution I would have preferred, it was the only one that would have worked as right after our performance many fans left.
3. MTV did not rig the contest. A former episode of MADE, the very program that was here to film the battle, depicted neither of two Battle of the Bands hopefuls winning their rival school's competition.
Remote Productions, the company that MTV contracts out for MADE, also did not rig the competition. Sammy James Jr. of The Mooney Suzuki also had nothing to do with the result beyond teaching me to play, sing, and entertain a crowd.
4. The outcome did not matter. Even though there was a prize, it is essentially a buy-five-get-one-free offer for a recording demo. Sammy James Jr. has offered to fly The Young Eclipse up to a studio in NYC to record some music instead. The point of the competition is to have fun and promote our music.
We hope you understand that none of us in the band, or in any of the other bands, wanted anyone to tamper with the results. I'm dissappointed that it happened in the first place, and I don't want it to happen again.
Thanks for listening,
Andrew, The Young Eclipse.
