Current mood:  contemplative
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
Since last I blogged(that's right it's become a verb), it's been more of the usual. I've had auditions for "Color Purple", and "Law & Order", and of course the obligatory commercial auditions. I also shot an episode of "Guiding Light". It was hard keeping a straight face. Soaps are so melodramatic and I'm so irreverent. It was fun working with "Josh","Billy", and "Reva"(if you've ever watched Guiding Light in the last 20 years you know who they are). I think that's one of the most fun things about my job, meeting people I've seen in TV and Movies over the years. Especially as a comedian. Being a comedian is like being in a fraternal order where there is this unspoken bond between us. Most comedians are very cool with each other because we all know what the other goes through onstage by yourself in front of a room of strangers(most of the time).

One of the things that has been on my mind lately is the concept of "Following Up". It's been on my mind because my last blog was quite popular, it made me wonder how I was gonna follow it up. In my line of work there is always the question of "What are you up to?", "What are you working on?", "What's next". Everyone wants to know how you're gonna follow up what you just did. The pressure can be daunting. Especially when you do something good. In your mind you're like, "Damn, I can't follow that up with crap". It's enough to create performance anxiety...LOL. It's like when you have a really stellar performance in bed. Now your partner expects you to give them 3 orgasms all of the time. "I'm only human!!!!"

I try to think of my talents as gifts from God. Believing that, I trust that the source of my gifts is limitless. Creativity has flowed through me since I was a child. It's not until we become adults and put pressure on ourselves that we stop the flow. So I'm relaxing and enjoying the ride, and if something I do sucks, so be it. Rome wasn't built in a day and I'm pretty sure there were a few things in Rome that they had to go back to the drawing board on. Just like in the sex analogy from the previous paragraph, sometimes we have premature ejaculations and all we can do is clean everyone off and relax and try again and if the person you're collaborating with doesn't want to work with you or doesn't want to give you another chance to prove your brilliance you have to move on. Even when we have those setbacks, at least we got an opportunity to do what we love. Hopefully we learn from those setbacks and we're better the next time. Use that however you like.

Peace
