Jason Miles-Short Bio
Jason Miles is a producer/artist/arranger/composer and keyboardist based in the New York area. He has crafted music for Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Marcus Miller, Gato Barbieri, David Sanborn, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, The Crusaders and many others. He has produced ambitious musical tributes to both Weather Report(''Celebrating the Music of Weather Report',Telarc) and Ivan Lins ('A Love Affair, The Music of Ivan Lins') for which he won a Grammy for his production of ' She Walks this Earth' and for which Sting won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal in 2001. Jason also produced 'To Grover With Love', the acclaimed and visionary tribute to Grover Washington Jr. In 2004 he master-minded the Contemporary Jazz Collection "Maximum Grooves-Coast To Coast" which earned him his 4th Grammy nomination. He also produced Gato Barbieri's most recent CD ' The Shadow of the Cat' which won the Billboard Latin Jazz Album of the year in 2003 and also received a Latin Grammy nomination. In 2005 Miles released his forward thinking homage to Miles Davis called ' Miles to Miles, In The Spirit of Miles Davis'. Then 2006 saw the re-imagination of Marvin Gaye's music with ' What's Going On, The Songs of Marvin Gaye'.
In between he produced artists such as Suzy Boggusss , Freddy Cole, Eric Marienthal and most recently The Bjorkestra, an 18 piece Big band that plays the music of Bjork. In 2008 Jason Will have 2 new CD's released on Shanachie Records. 'Soul Summit Live at The Berks Jazz Festival' brings together the ultimate mixture of Jazz and Soul played by Steve Ferrone, Bob Babbitt, Reggie Young, Karl Denson, Sherrod Barnes with guests, Susan Tedeschi, Maysa, Richard Elliot and Mike Mattison. A stunning recording. Global Noize is a new group with Jason and DJ Logic that brings the funk and World Groove to a new level. Miles and Logic are joined by Karl Denson, Christian Scott ,John Popper, Bernie Worrell, Me'shell Ndgeocello, Billy Martin, Suphala, Cyro Baptista andJames Genus.
This CD will be released in March 2008 and will be premiered at the 2008 Berks Jazz festival.
Currently Jason has been playing more live concerts to bring his concepts to the live stage. Jason has performed 2 major shows at the last 4 Berks Jazz Festivals and has also perfomed in many other venues including an appearance at 2007 Cassablanca Jazz Festival
Jason Miles continues to be one of music's true renaissance and visionaries moving into the 21st century.
