Well?? We're well into Lent, I'm doing a parish mission in Atlanta today and it's a REALLY great church, St Jude the Apostle. It occurs to me as I am missing my daughters last half time dance at her high school's last basketball game, that I didn't come all this way and miss all that stuff to tell everyone not to eat a Hershey Kiss. There's surely more to Lent than that right??!! In Lent, we are called to "repent" of our sins. What does that mean, really?? Repent does NOT actually mean to "be sorry". The word repent comes from a greek word "metenoia" which meant to have a "change of heart". To do things differently.
That's what I hope this lent is for all of us. A chance to figure out what things in our life keep us from God and to have a change of heart! To choose different next time... to choose God's way next time above our own. We're not going to get it right every time, but we need to keep moving in God's direction. He will take care of most of the details. So, as this Lent gets dangerously close to the half way mark, I am praying that you (and I!) make a commitment to let go of some of the things we're so attached to, NOT because they are bad, but because it will create a little space in our hearts and lives that God can move into. Peace! Steve
