Current mood:  calm

After watching the 30-minute infomercial on Magic Jack and researching it on the web, I took the plunge and ordered it.  It works!  It really was super easy to connect, register and make a call instantly.

http://www.magicjack.com

Before ordering it, I spent about 2 hours sifting through forums and blogs to see what people were saying.

Many had problems with it.  I used some common sense before installing it - hence, no problems.

-Steps I took before installing Magic Jack:

1- Ran Windows XP Disk Cleanup.

2-Ran Defrag.

3-Ran free version of AdAware.

4-Ran definitions update for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.

5-Patience!  Let the software take its time installing.  Windows auto-detects and installs the USB drivers.

6-Registered it.  Verified it worked on a test call to and from my cell phone.

7-On Taskbar down by the clock, clicked Safely Remove Hardware, Magic Jack shows as using 2-drives.  Turned both off.

8-Restarted computer.

9-Magic Jack restarted and has worked flawlessly since.

Its that simple.  My phone is an old VTech 2.4Ghz cordless.  Magic Jack likes it.  I couldn't be more happy.

Lets just hope this company Magic Jack stays in business!

- Please note: If you've had similar issues with Magic Jack, please respond with your comments. I'd be curious and happy to read them.

- Problem: Was hearing some intermittent choppy voices on both the caller and myself. Could hear myself echo slightly a half-second later.

- Note: I purposely failed to inform the associate that I was doing a No-No. Per www.magicjack.com Help section -and- it is stamped right on the Magic jack itself "DO NOT PLUG INTO A USB HUB". I have it plugged into a USB 2.0 hub which is plugged into 1 of the ONLY 2 available USB ports -- way on the back of my old Dell Dimension XPS T700r which is a total pain-in-the-ass to get at. The back USB ports are old USB v1.0. The hub is USB 1.0 backward compatible - hence why I plugged the Magicjack into the hub. Even with that said, the fixes below do work.

- Repair steps taken: Went to www.magicjack.com and clicked through the Help windows. Got a pop-up chat window with an associate help person. They were extremely helpful in resolving the issues.

--Windows Vista users, DO NOT use the fixes below because I use Windows XP. Vista issues may have different ways of resolving the issues I was having.--
