Gay's 18th Century play, The Beggar's Opera has been reconfigured to a
not so distant future: a dark, seedy, absurd, visually rich and cruelly
comic world.
Halfway between a gig and a play it features live
music from A Band Called Quinn, cutting edge production design and a
large cast of leading performers. This is one of the most ground
breaking theatre events of 2009.
Created by the award-winning
team at Vanishing Point, this production is visually stunning, and
presented through action, songs and images. With John Gay’s original
story as the basis for the show, the production has been devised
throughout the rehearsal period by the cast and creative team.
Led by award-winning director Matthew Lenton (2009 Cats Award for Best Director for Interiors).
