Do any of you remember Halloween like I do?
I remember going to K-Mart (There was no WalMart) - there was a little, tiny, itsy bitsy corner of an aisle devoted to Halloween. You had about 4 choices for a costume (I was always the skeleton) and you kept your plastic pumpkin from the previous year for holding all of the candy you were gonna get.
We went out in groups - no parents - no fear - and we absolutely had a blast. It was easily the best night of the year. Man we had fun. We would be sick for two days after eating all of that crap - but it was worth it all.
And parents? Adults? If you were over 12 years old - you just didn't even acknowledge that Halloween even existed. This was a kids night.
So how does it differ now?
Let's see...the first thing I can think of is that it has evolved from a kids night out to an adults night out! Tens of millions of dollars spent on expensive costumes, parties, and all the trimmings. Go into WalMart or K Mart today - you'll see what I mean. Kids are really not all that interested - not like we were.
But the adults? We LOVE it! Isn't it strange how things change?
My wife and I will be at a party - dressed to the hilt - spending money and having a great time. She will have a costume that doesn't use much material...I'll probably be a doctor again - I don't wanna go hunt for another costume. After a couple of drinks it really doesn't matter anyway.
Happy Halloween!
