Theory, this event is much needed, not only in light of the outrageous "baggy pants" ordinance, but also with the recent disturbing devlopments in the economy. This venue no doubt will be an important one to bring attention to the erosion of our civil liberties. It should also go far to connect these rather "shocking" responses of the state to their increasing inability to resolve the economic and social crisis facing Flint and communities across the country. Arresting people for bagging pants will not resolve the issue of the rising cost of the necessaries of life; gas, food, housing, education, utilities, healthcare, etc. But the city of Flint, which is at depression levels with respect to job losses, poverty etc, making "baggy" pants the problem, is certainly a means of keeping folks distracted so we don't unite to fight for what is truly important. I applaud you and others who take time from your lives to educate and challenge us to get involved so that not only do we understand that the issue of baggy pants is an assault on our civil liberties but also that this diversion serves the purpose of letting the politicians and others off the hook for the deepening crisis facing us all! I wish I could be there. I will do my best to get as many of my friends and family to attend and support.
