Greetings All,

I was talking to a friend that I am mentoring last week and he made the following statement:

"You know that God wants us to be happy."

I went into mentor mode and challenged him to back that up with scripture.

He said:

"I don't know but I am sure that it is there somewhere"

So I challenged him to find the scripture and to get back to me.

I thought that it would also be a good challenge to my friends in blog-land.

So, what say you?

Does God want believers to be happy?

Please back up your answers contextually with scripture.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Take care,

I believe that God wants us to be conformed to the image of his Son. His Son (Jesus), was not always happy...in fact he is called "a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief" (isaiah 53:3). that having been said, God is more concerned with our holiness, obedience, character and a clean heart. This is what God really wants for us -- He primarily wants us to be found like His son.

Happiness comes later -- we will ultimately be happy when we meet him face to face. Unfortunately in this life, we will often have sadness, sorrow, grief and trials. That is, if we are seeking to be like the Lord. But it is possible to seek happiness and find it on this earth. This is the focus of the unbelieve -- eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. But as believers we have a much higher calling, namely Christlikeness.

Interesting question. I believe what God wants MOST is a reciprocal relationship with us. He wants to dispense himself into us. Since two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time, in order for that to happen, we must release our will and our "self" so he can replace it with HIMSELF,

Many people misquote Psalms 20:4, incorrectly thinking that God will give them the desires of their heart. It says MAY God give you the desire of your heart... and I believe he will.
There is a prerequisite though. Isaiah 26:8-9 says Yes, Lord, walking in the ways of your laws, we wait for you; Your name and renoun are the desired of our hearts. My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. Psalm 73: 25 -26 says Whom have I in heaven but thee, and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. My flesh and my heart faileth, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.

Our desires have to be ligned up with His desires. Our will MUST be in submission to His will. God never promised us a carefree life. He did say in Jeremiah 29:11 : I know the plans I have made for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future. I am aware that in my life, choices I have made have blockedthe blessings that God wanted to pour into my life.
Psalms 143:7-10 says Answer me quickly Lord, my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, For to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

God gave us many promises in His word. He would not have needed to do this if our life was going to be easy. Throughout the Bible we see promises such as "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Jos 1:5) "...nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39) "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1Jn 1:9)

Sin separates us from God. Through or Lord's Death and resurrection we are forgiven, and restored to a right relationship with God. Our Father allows situations in our lives to occur so that we may turn to Him for comfort, guidance, wisdom and so much more.

My desire this year is to seek His face, and not His hand. To submit to His will for my life and to remember that He is God all by myself. He doesn't need my help. I need to stop presenting my body a living sacrifice only to crawl down from the alter. Time to bind myself to the alter and stay there !!!

Lord, help me remember that you are faithful even when I am not. That you have already gotten the victory, and all I have to do is lay hold of it. Help me to keep my mind focused on you, for there is life and peace.

Happy New Year My Brother
