As a single male Christian I hear a lot what it means to be single. As a Christian man that is single and desires to be married one day if it is God's Will for me, I will admit that this life is hard. Thais does not mean impossible, this means difficult.
Phil 4:13 states that "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" I can do all things, that is cool. But wait I should not chop up scripture. So I can do all things but it is important to note that my strength comes from Christ. So that means that Christ is my strength. That also means that without Him I have no strength, I am weak, I am nothing, I can be easily tossed around by the world.
When I listen to "Christian" singles talk, I hear an interesting mix of focus on the world and focus on the Lord.
It is encouraging to go to a wedding and the couple announces that their first kiss is as man and wife. For an engaged couple that takes focus on the Lord.
It is encouraging to hear Christian singles say and show that they are not dropping their standards and they are looking for a godly mate not just the next attractive person that comes by and says that they attend church.
Wow I almost forgot the title of this post.
What I find interesting is how Christians use statistics to justify their actions.
They say things like…
"Well, I an XX years old and still single. The odds of me finding someone now that have also kept high Biblical standards are not that great. I need to do what ever I can do to find a mate even if I have to lower my standards just a little bit"
"There aren't many singles at my church. I need to go to the "verse and a good story" mega church because the odds are better there for me to find someone."
So here's my problem with statistics. Statistics can be made to conclude what ever you want to conclude.
I would rather use God's math.
What are the odds that as I grow older and stay focused on the Lord that the Lord will show me my wife that love Him more than she loves me and shows it through her actions by doing what God says in His Word?
1 to 1 if it is in God's Will for my life.
What are the odds that as the single population in my church shrinks that the Lord will lead me to wife that love Him more than she loves me and shows it through her actions by doing what God says in His Word?
1 to 1 if it is in God's Will for my life.
The question here is will I Proverbs 3:5-6 – "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Will I praise Him and trust Him with all that is within me?
Will I ignore what the world says?
Will I ignore what the flesh says?
Will I ignore what the devil says?
Will I do all this even if the Lords path for me is to remain single all while I desire to be married?
Phil 4:13 states that "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me"
