Kite Party soars (into our good graces) Current mood: aroused
After seeing the band Kite Party perform in Wilkes-Berry at the Cafe Metropolis tonight, it's safe to say that the future of the Philadelphia music scene is a bright one, a bright one indeed. With their classically handsome looks and boy next door charm, they seamlessly mix ethereal guitar work, booming tribal drums, clean and rhythmic synths with crooning vocals. Even before they began playing, we knew we were in for something special when guitarist Justin Fox dedicated the act to this very mutual MySpace.
They got things started right with a cut from their upcoming EP, before delving into old favorites Frogmarch and Cowboy Hat, as well as Nascar Generation and Rubik's Cube from their latest release Hands Clap Music. Despite the small crowd, the band played an inspired set, seemingly feeding off the intimacy in the room. Drummer Pete Knepper kept things tight throughout the night, even though his bass drum was sliding on stage more that a pat of butter on a fresh McDonald's hotcake. Justin Fox and Tim Jordan effortlessly switched back and forth between guitar, synths, and bass, definitely impressing this concert goer with their competence on each. All the while Russell Edling kept things going with his sincere vocals, and complex guitar work, switching between finger-picking and his pick within a song while managing the array of effects on his pedal board.
Overall, it was great to see these boys back in NEPA, and it was well worth the drive to Wilkes-Barre and the price of admission for the both of us. And while we wish we could have stayed longer after their set and enjoyed some friendship, we understood that we couldn't keep them from the drive back to Philly. The both of us are very much looking forward to crossing paths with them again when Adam and tigers jaw perform in Philadelphia in a few weeks.

Thanks a lot, boys! What an honor!
