Personally I think it's a great time to be making music. I think electronica is where jazz was in the 1940s. There were so many great players who learnt their skills playing the dance music of the big band era. And when they stepped out of the confines of the dance band thing and explored what was possible on their instruments they made great music (and some dodgy stuff - but hey that's part of the process of being creative, you got to take risks!) Dance music had another golden age in the 90s, and right now we've only just started discovering the possibilities of the computer as a musical instrument.
Some people think all the good music has already been made. In the digital age the music industry is in crisis and there will never be any great bands again. But I don't see that when I look around me. Things keep changing, and nothing will ever be the same again, but there's a whole new generation coming, new music made by a new music business, bought and listened to in new ways. It's a great time to be around!
