A review from Taakefrost ( http://www.taakefrost.de/rjoyless_signs.htm )

Simulatenously to the resurrection of the Forgotten Woods cult, the other area of operation of mastermind Olav Berland is calling from the catacombs again. But while the earlier mentioned legend may have taken its life with "Race of Cain", the latter thought the fans of "Unlimited Hate" and (maybe?) the late Prog-Depressive-Rock works with its at times really weird style borrowings from Joy Division they were capable of waiting this long. But now, finally...
A Best-Of. Maybe the last thing one had in mind with this band. However, according to them, it is a final look on what has been associated with the group until now. The only new track on here, a predominantly keyboard driven and melancholic "(untitled)" gets its psychedelic touch by the excessive use of the pitch wheel. Concerning the rest - or at least a major part of it - everyone should now smile confidently when listening to it. The unconventionally fresh interpretation of "(Don't Need) Religion" which was used a lot in the early stage of Black Metal including, "Wild Signs of the Endtimes" also contains the maybe most important song for me, "Blå melankoli" - one of the last relics from the then just deceased Forgotten Woods. "Inherent Emptiness" always sounded to me like a car with a broken starter but apart from that, it also exceeds its substantial abilities due to being so lengthy. "Your Crystal Fragments" again comes forth as a brilliant track which especially shines regarding the whole album. There is not much to say about the "Blue In The Face"-disc (now for the first time on CD) except that the sometimes very "out of key"-seeming, fuzzing Depressive-Rock with some moments from their "Metal" era may have been recorded directly from one of their records and that it is still not everyone's tea. Most notably the country parts on "Swansmile" as well as the second part of "Room of Velvet Splendour" surely will the old-school guy's hackles want to flee from his neck.
Everyone who can not purchase an original record from Joyless and absolutely has to have one in their collection should consider "Wild Signs of the Endtimes". All the others should play "Unlimited Hate" once again because according to the quartet, there is no turning back. On towards new territories!

"Metal years", I thought all their metal years were in Unlimited Hate seeing as everything since then has been completely different. Great news.
