CELTIC ROOTS REVUE SHOWCASES two NEW ENGLAND TRAD ACTS

Lissa Schneckenburger and Matt & Shannon Heaton, two acts with a fresh take on traditional songs and dance tunes, will team up this October for a tour of Midwest venues.

Lissa and the Heatons met in Boston, a hotbed for a diverse mix of traditional music styles. Both acts have collaborated for a number of different projects, including BCMFest and Childsplay; and both have toured internationally with their own music (Irish traditional music for Matt and Shannon and traditional music of New England for Lissa). This October they will each perform music from their respective CDs, and will also offer toe-tapping, spine tingling collaborations.

New England fiddler and folk singer Lissa Schneckenburger grew up in Maine as an active member of the folk music and dance community, where she cut her teeth as a musician at a very young age.  She has continued to explore music throughout her life, leading to her graduation from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts (2001). While embracing a diverse pallet of musical influences, she still stays true to her New England roots.  She will be joined by Bethany Waickman on guitar.

Boston-based husband-and-wife duo Matt & Shannon Heaton offer updated and traditional Irish music on flute/guitar/bouzouki/accordion, stirring traditional-style singing, and a fresh, appealing stage show. They had their musical start with sessions in Chicago and formal music study at Northwestern University’s School of Music. Having built their act from years of playing sessions and then touring together (first with band Siucra, then as a duo), Matt and Shannon have grown into thoroughly entertaining performers. They bring to the stage a depth of shared experience and a love for Irish music; their stage banter is comfortable, often hilarious. As an added bonus, Shannon speaks fluent Thai and incorporates traditional music of Thailand into the set!

The Celtic Roots Revue Collective was formed in 2005 in Montreal. Showcasing some of the Northeast and Canada’s finest traditional musicians and dancers, Schneckenburger and the Heatons are supreme representatives for October 2009’s tour.
